FYI the discount worked perfectly. I have all of the previous incarnations and got $40 off. I did NOT get the $10 discount for buying the first week.

I forgot to register the base game, but I still got it for $20(+5$ for VAT), meaning I did get the $10 first week discount. So that's kinda odd.

If I understand correctly, the $49.99 price reflects a $10 discount for buying now. After May 29, the price will increase to $59.99

Hooray! There is a "Clean Galaxy View"!!! I do not need to use my jury-rigged mod.
The game loads faster.

The AI is so much smarter now, it actually does stuff, and almost smartly, wow :)

I just noticed one little thing: Automated ships won't refuel until the very last instant, like, they run out of fuel a few seconds before reaching the refueling station. They should keep a backup in case of trouble. The refueling station could be destroyed, or they could fall in a fight draining their last hints of energy. :)

"Clean Galaxy View" does not mean what I thought it did. I still have to load my little mod to play on a black background without the clutter.

Also had to restructure my Sci-Fi Comp mod. Universe demands the mods use the same directory structure as the core game, rather than the oddball names used in themes in the older versions. This makes a lot of sense, is easy to fix and standardizes everything. Good job. Much easier now for the Xylons, Klingons, Shadows, Centauri, Empire, Rebellion, Federation, et. al. to fight each other.

The discount code works well, thanks. It made my decision to buy this game now much easier

Still 2.5 hours to go ... Should I spend the time reading the Universe Manual again, or a book about Time Management?

When I take the Matrix registration number and plug it into Steam to associate it with my account, will I have to uninstall the Matrix version before hand? My concern is that the the game gets a good clean install with the new updates that will be pushed through Steam. Or will Steam just overlay the current install? Please elaborate.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

The Matrix Serial number will not activate the game on Steam. You need to use your Matrix Serial number after purchase to get a Steam key per the process here:

tm.asp?m=3615511

The Steam version and the Matrix version install by default in different folders and while they are compatible, the Steam version uses Steam for updates and such while ours includes our usual auto-updater, game menu, etc. So if you prefer to use Steam for your updates, just use the Steam key to activate it there and then download it through Steam.

If you install both the Matrix and Steam versions on the same system (not sure why you would, but just in case we did test that), they will still work, you'll just have a different shortcut to launch each one.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks for the answer.

Another question, if I download the Steam version, when do you buy the upgrade to DW Universe? Must it be done immediately or can I wait to upgrade in a few days?

Steam will only sell distant worlds: universe, no? [&:]

The upgrade thing is for those that own some distant worlds already. If you do it is probably a better idea to buy at matrix (with the discount code) and get a steam key as described in the sticky.
