How do i go about changing the theme song? Do i have to rename the new file to match the already existing file and overwrite?

You create in your mod a fold called MUSIC, and yes, you are correct, whatever piece of music you want as a theme, you rename it to what Distant Words is expecting.
Remember that the evil which is now in the world will become yet more powerful, and that it is not evil which conquers evil, but only love -- Olga Romanov.

As TJ stated, the filename the game uses is DistantWorldsTheme.mp3.
The directory used is: Distant Worlds Universe\Sounds\Music
or Distant Worlds Universe\Customization\The Mod Name Here\Sounds\Music
Backup your original 'DistantWorldsTheme' file, them place your renamed file in either of those directories.

Place in the main DW directory if you want your defined theme to be used in any game
modded or vanilla. Place ONLY in the specified mod directory for playing your defined
theme music only when that specific mod is active. Hope this helps!
