Slightly OT: SPWAW vs. Combat Mission

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Slightly OT: SPWAW vs. Combat Mission

Post by antarctic »

Hi guys:

I'd like to find out what members of this forum feel about how SPWAW compares with Battlefront's Combat Mission.

Thanks

Apples and oranges...I play both, but nowadays more CM:Barbarossa to Berlin. CM lacks campaign that I like very much, but is IMHO more realistic. But I think SPWaW and CM are so different games that comparison is really difficult.

I play SPWAW. Combat Mission is gathering dust on my bookshelf.

combat mission does not caught my attention
as much as the steel panthers series....

if i will be bored or something i will try combat
mission for shure again. the 3d graphics are
not good enough to make up the special
apeal of the SPWAW series. can´t describe it.

depends on your taste. there are some demos
around f. the CM series. so try yourself....

The up-coming Combat Mission covering the East Front looks promising, with nice graphics as well as interesting gameplay.

But, hey, I'm more looking forward to Combat Leader :D :D

In my opinion if Combat Mission had "better" yes better graphics it might help.

I am not easy to impress obviously.

The state of current graphics is not currently enough to get me to play at that scale of action. I have seen better.

But until the images are on par with a real video I am not interested.

It is just better to play my slower more serious Steel Panthers.

Besides, Steel Panthers looks like ASL while Combat Mission makes me think I am playing with my models.

I don't really want to play with my models eh.

If I liked Combat Mission, odds are I would just go all the way and play table top miniatures eh.

I play cmbo on occasion but the one thing I like about this forum compared tp battlefront's is the criticism you'll get for talking about a aar on there forum without a long winded *spoiler's*alert. That's why a scrool button was created and I've seen guy's get down right nasty about telling them about a scen.without warning.Heck I need all the help I can get in either game.

The games are different but very playable.. SPWAW plays pbem so much better than CM. Also CM will appeal to micromanagers because each unit can be viewed from its own vantage point. It's probably the pinacle of wargaming - as far as control goes. But for playability and fun Spwaw has the smoother engine. You should have them both.

Who knows I might have come to like CM, but I spent a couple of months on the Strategic Command forum there.

Aside from their forum having no inherent software to allow you to be alerted to when a thread was posted to, that you were active on...
I found just a few to many younguns, or just plain juvenile posters in the mix.

I don't hate younguns, and I can act juvenile with the best of them, but it makes for a lame forum experience.
Best way to get me to not be to dedicated to a forum, use lame software, and allow immature posting on a frequent basis.

True, I have not been in the CM dedicated forums, so what. I have noted that most forums are generally indicative of a site in general.

So I was never able to gain an interest for the game in the same manner I was for Steel Panthers for that matter.

I would buy CM if I wasn't too lazy to get the money, but ever since Spwaw i've never played a game more than a month or two and i always came back to spwaw. right no Morrowind is sucking my time up but I doubt thatll last. i might get CM just for the we plan we go system

Les you can't go by a forum for gosh sakes. The game has sutleties that SPWAW was never designed for. but it will never supplant SPWAW. Cm gives you individual control, SPWAW gives you a wider scope.
