red vs Scharfschütze
Setup:
Central Germany, November'47.
5K, no air, 10% arty, no mines
SU - Red
US - Scharfschütze
Legend: Small border town between Soviet and American Zones. During Nurmeberg tribunal investigation, it's discovered that a half assembled German made prototype of a nuclear weapon was hidden in the town's vicinity. Stalin wants it ASAP, Truman wants it ASAP. Since the town lies in both zones whoever controls it will have the weapon. The reward is worth a limited conflict to both sides.

We´ll get those nukes for the forces of freedom allright... as soon as the smoke the reds dropped lifts, that is
The Soviet Union takes the first casualities in this engagement, a point BA-64 AA armoured car is shredded by one of the all-american 40mm AA guns. With the spy dropped, other troops advance, while the soviet mortars are busy deploying a smoke screen...

Soviet forces are advancing. Tomorrow's issue of Pravda will tell the truth about how a lonely stray Soviet civilian car (i.e AC BA-64) was ambushed by the evil capitalists. Now is the turn of for the Red Army to avenge the loss.

Civilian car indeed;)
Our secret service was correct in identifying a substantial soviet force moving illegally in the american occupation zone. The bloody reds have responded to our request to retreat at once with concentrated mortar fire, something that we have repaid in kind, ordering an available 75mm battery to shell that village full of commie sympathizers.
Our recon troops dispatch another BA-64 "civilian" car (with an extremely lucky ´zooka round) and drive back Ski-borne soviet infantry. These for sure weren´t vacationing here!
Other attentive eyes spot a stolen M3 halftrack full of PPsh-toting brutes speeding towards our positions in the north. Several Hellcats are brought to bear on it, and though it is difficult to take down a fast moving target at 35+hexes, it can be done (yeah, and that one was an ultra-lucky shot):p
The fight is on. Let´s hope the scummy commies realize that they have gone to far here and retreat their IS-4 monsters before we have to put a couple of holes into them:rolleyes:
@VikingNo2: afaik not. Interested?

yes
yes please
Americans seem to snipe pretty well. That 35+ hex shot was the best I have ever seen. Upset over the loss of two civilian vehicles destroyed by the paranoid Americans, Soviet workers skiing nearby drive back the offending Bazookas and destroy a recon Jeep. Interesting to mention that US had armor in place with siginificant artillery support vs some Soviet skiing tourists and local militia. With such a big disadvantage it sure looks like it is a well prepared provocation. And remeber the first shots were fired from the American side. I have tape and replay confirms that

Skiing tourist and local militamen don´t carry SMGs, LMGs and RPG-3 launchers. And they ride a bus and not stolen US halftracks!
To say nothing of the 160mm superheavy mortars that just opened up. Those are for deer hunting, I presume?
Well, we yanks like our meat in large chunks and call it a steak, and not shredded to little bits!
Two more "civilian" BA-64s are destroyed, this should blind the sovs somewhat. We break contact with the soviet skiiers and put a little mortar fire on their heads. That should teach them...
I have sent word to HQ requesting a propaganda company to take pictures of the red insurgents once we are finished with them.

Skiing tourists were practicing biathlon if you notice they carry rifles, SMGs were just for self-defence
Soviet forces rushed to the area to stop the slaughter of innocent civilians are sweeping across wiping up American infantry previously suppressed by mortar fire. KGB reports that the ambush may have beed the work of marauding American soldiers who were driven to it by lack of morals and discipline. Troops reports receiving 8 in. shells, man that must have hurt.

Well, the commies have dropped their disguise this turn. My brave advance squads came under attack by T-34s, and those have little utility either for skiing nor for hunting. Thank God we are prepared!
Two T-34s are burning in the snow now, along with those two Skauts the Reds seem to be so fond of.(One took three 37mm APs from a Greyhound last turn, and kept on firing!)
A M26 Pershing shoots the turret off a T-70 advancing in the south, while another stops the advance of yet one more stolen HT loaded with SMG thugs.
The mighty 8" rain fiery death on the advancing enemy. Let´s hope that the constant drain of scouting and movement resources begins to tell...

2 more burning T-34s, 2 HTs and miscellaneous infantry from Soviet side so Soviet colonel is pleased. That's a pretty low casualty toll when fighting American with their fast and sharp shooting tanks. Another medal will be on colonel's chest for tomorrow's issue of Pravda will feature pictures of 2 M18 Hellcats and M26 Pershing destroyed by brave Russian infantry in hand-to-hand combat. Who needs tanks anyway. Soviets are probing on the flanks, making somewhat of a breakthrough up North attempting to get to the highway to get into American rear. In the middle it's hex-to-hex combat with Soviet 160 mm mortars and American 8in howitzers melting the ground away aloing with everything else. In the south a well prepared American group repulses Soviet advance.

I´m unafraid of any steamrollers... nothing a M9er round wouldn´t stop!
Regrouping our forces, we inflict further damage to the enemy mobile forces. Yet another BA-64 ins finished, as is the damaged T-70. A stolen halftrack is turned into swiss cheese by onrushing Greyhound, but simply won´t brew up. A job for the infantry, and then it burns nicely. Another halftrack in the south acquires a 90mm AP-sized observation window. Tsk, tsk...
The 8" are dishing out death again, and the impacts lie nicely on the advancing commies.:p
Too bad I just discoverd that the game lasts only ten turns, I feel I could wipe those reds out here if I could take a little time. With this battle halfway through, we will be forced to mimick the soviets style and rush without regard for casualities...

In the south, US group yet withholds against another Soviet attack leaving several HTs burning and a T-34 posed for a direct hit. In the center Soviets continue to expand their control to find more American armor and infantry nearby. The north is relativly slow with a lonely M18 Hellcat keeping the guard, Soviets deploy a little smoke to sneak by. Americans continue to pummel the town and the highway assuming that everybody likes suburbs and freeways to travel on

That T-34 is gone now.
In the centre near the main road, scouts report the the enemy has fled from our mighty barrage. The HTs he sent through are all destroyed, while mixed infantry is driven back just north of the road. I lose a Hellcat to a T-34 when I decided to shoot it out, but we have a saying here: No risk, No fun.
That T-34 will be taken care of soon...
In the artillery exchange, the enemy 160mm´s are just murderous. But they can´t be everywhere, and where they aren´t, we dispatch weakly-armed soviets left and right.

Well, that's one nasty fight, T-34 that killed that Hellcat last turn is still standing but we'll see what happens to it next turn. Soviets are expanding their breakthrough in the north finding suprisingly little resistence, hmmm. I wonder when US reinforcements will be coming? The center is still goin back and forth with neither side having enough forces to control it but that will change soon. The south is getting more attention, 2 M26 Pershings are burning, taken by a Bazooka round and a brave T-34 who avenged its partner. Another T-34 was attempting to get around the third Pershing but ran across another Pershing with 2 Bazooka team and rifle squad. To stop the enemy in its tracks it started slugging it out with the Pershing sending Bazookas running but was unable to win the duel so it may not live another day
. Though the Soviet colonel likes trading T-34m42 for Pershings, very cost effective transaction
. You never know but IS-4s may not get to see any action afetr all.

I think this soviet colonel has access to the entire pool of stolen halftracks!;)
At least, he won´t be returning too much of them once this is over. 60mm mortar Jeeps are absolutely sufficient to deal with them, as I´ve found to my delight.
Sov infantry is also suffering. We retaliate where we can, and it isn´t a pretty sight.
So let´s add several squads, some 4-5 HTs, a T-70 and another T-34 to the KIAs, and the grim picture is brightening. Needless to say, our artillery is out in force and blasting commies...:p

Well, things are getting better and better, in the north a platoon of T-44s makes a guest appearance to surprise the Hellcat and Pershing perched up together. Those were enjoying themselves shooting up everything in sight. Hellcat went to hell. Pershing is still standing but can it outshoot a pair of T-44s, I guess we'll find out next turn. In the center another brave T-34m42 attempts to outshoot a Pershing but fails so I added some more 160mm mortar shells just to convince the yanks to leave the center vhexes alone. In the south a crew of one Pershing bailed so I finished them off (afaik) with skiiers. Another skiing squad discovered a pair of Pershings loaded with Bazookas and recon so it shot them up with rifle fire making Bazookas flee. That will teach them

The Pershing has withdrawn ,going unsupported against two enemy tanks at range three seemed...unwise!
In the south and centre, more enemy ski troops are dying in the snow. Best of all is the squad that got hit by its own side´s 160mm mortar shell, takes a whopping six casualities and then disperses:p:D:P
Having run dry of HE, my 60mm Jeeps smoke several postitions.
I have a slight feeling that the enemy is running short on infantry... at least I have killed a great many!
