Planes gone

Post by topeverest »

This is a new one on me. Loaded this turn PBEM and all LBA and SBA squadrons had all planes swept out of them.
See picture. I played around a bit, and if I had replacements and the squadron could take planes, with the first plane
I got back all the planes the squadron had, but if I didn't, then I cannot access planes - they remain at zero.

Any ideas what may have happened?

Aliens maybe.[:D] No idea, I haven't seem that before. I would get your opponent to resent the turn or go back to a previous turn and see what happens. GP

Looks like the save may have gotten corrupted. I have seen data glitches when that happens, thought never that big.

Perhaps something went very wrong in Europe and they called and asked for their P-47s back?

Oh yes. The game, in the first instance, requires memory. People have been jerking Michalem around to provide more "I Want" screens and lists which requires more memory. People think nothing of running the game, tracker, some movie site, porn, and CNN at the same time - more memory.

Since this is a DOS based game, memory is supremely important. Memory conflicts WILL generate unanticipated results and screw up your screens, and more besides.

Actually it isn't DOS based, but your overall point is a good one. This game does take a lot of memory and running a lot of other things does cause Windows to use the page file a lot, which not only slows things down, it runs the risk of corrupting things. Of course the memory problem could be something else. These sorts of glitches are very tough to find. I worked on one of these sorts of bugs off and on for six months before I caught it.
