B-17 to B-24 upgrade path????

B-17 to B-24 upgrade path????

After completing a 610-turn campaign game as the Allies I noticed a very strange plane upgrade path. The B-17E planes upgrade to B-24J's and not the B-17G. Why would B-17 crews upgrade to a completely new plane type, with a different crew complement, when there is an upgrade available that is the same plane type they already fly? I kept wondering why are there B-17G plane replacements when no air unit uses them or upgrades to them? I think the B-17E to B-24J upgrade path is incorrect and should be changed to the B-17G as the proper plane upgrade for B-17's. That would allow for more B-24D's to be upgraded to the B-24J model which makes a lot more sense!

It has to do with what happened historically. Europe got precedence on the B17's while the B24 was primarily used in the Pacific for it's range due to the Pacific bases/targets were much more spread out. The thing I don't like is the B17E's, having such a low replacement rate yet several squadrons while a relativly high rate for B24D's with only a couple of squadrons, why they don't upgrade to B24D's. All of this would be a moot point if we had control over A/C equipping.

Good point on the B-17's going to Europe. I had considered this was a possibility since there were alot of B-17's in Europe. But what's rather lame is to have B-17G replacements and there's nothing to use them with. Just ought to turn off the B-17G replacements if nothing is using them. Since we can't do manual plane upgrades there's no way to use the bigus B-17G replacements. I still say that we need manual plane upgrades and let us players decide which air units upgrade to which available upgrades we want and when we want.
