Officials at the Swedish Ministry of Defence are being tight lipped about a reported incident between units of the Swedish Navy and a Soviet submarine inside Sweden's territorial waters. There was some sort of confrontation where shots were fired that occurred on the west coast near Gothenburg but the details are unconfirmed as of this writing. However, unnamed sources state that a Soviet submarine was attacked and forced to the surface after being apparently hit by anti-submarine mortars fired from the patrol boat HMS Mode (P-154). In addition Navy helicopters dropped depth charges and torpedoes on other underwater contacts in support of the missile boat. According to one eyewitness, after the submarine surfaced, apparently damaged and on fire, it was escorted by HMS Mode outside of Swedish waters where it was met by a Soviet warship and subsequently escorted through the Kattgatt. A witness also described Swedish fighter planes as being involved although there is no reports of any air action.

Real observations.
This was an engrossing little scenario that highlights one of CMANO's strengths; the ability to model naval operations other than war. I was really surprised then the damaged Foxtrot popped to the surface some 200 metres from HMS Mode and then 10-minutes later a Soviet destroyer shows up. The picture shows Mode formed up with the damaged submarine, an orbiting Navy Sea Knight ASW helo itching to drop its load of depth charges and one of the Viggen fighters providing cover. No coordinates are shown to minimise spoilers.
