Shamal - arggggg!!!

Post by vettim89 »

Well I have played this scenario about 20 times trying to get it right. Let's just say the designers got it right when they said it was difficult/complex

So the scenario goals are basic:

Destroy 6 hangers and 16 ammo revemants at H3
Destroy the 2 runways at H2
Destroy 15 buildings at the third AB whose name escapes me (see below)

H3 is the easiest by far as it only has a single Sa-6 and some AAA. Hit the ammo dumps with some stand off weapons while taking out the Sa-6 with HARMS

Now it gets hard as H2 is guarded by an Sa-2 site plus two Sa-8 and another Sa-6

Then I sent in some iron bomb armed F-16s to clean up the AAA sites. I then hit the runway with JP-233 armed Tornados which only took out one!!!! This is the first time they failed to take out both in one strike in all the times I have played.

One of the hardest parts of this scenario is managing the air-to-air refueling. This is my CAP and tanker line. In spite of having the CAP on "refuel" I lost a F-15 and a Tornado ADV to fuel starvation. Thiese both happened while I was trying to manage inbound strikes

So everybody lands and reloads for the final push. The last AB is surrounded by a SAM belt. So I took out as many as possible to clear a path. I then sent my F-111 in with GBU. They took out 2/3 of the buildings

So everything was looking good. I was feeling cocky so after sending in more iron bomb F-16 to take out the SAM sites just to be sure they were dead, I sent in the LGB armed F-111. Well, I should have reduce the AAA with f-16s like I did at H2 because it took out five F-111!!!! Ergo:

Here is the loss chart. Everything was destroyed and I was doing ok until the last strike. This is a great scenario and definitely worth playing again.

I used 1.04 and still had serious hassle with the refueling. I lost the following only due to fuel starvation (one F-16 got lost over Afghanistan searching for a non existent tanker).
