Neutral Vichy naval combat.

Post by Viktor_Kormel_slith »

Like you can see in the picture the program ask USA player to star a naval combat with neutral vichy units. I think is a bug, are you ok?

It looks like that search should not be offered, but the workaround is easy. [:)]

But What would happen if any others axis unit were in the sea? then it would not so easy, I´m afraid[:-].

It's possible that portion of the naval combat rules would work OK and the Vichy-ites would be ignored.

Has the US taken the unrestricted naval war option?

Strike the above... the US is at war with all 3 axis powers so it has taken unrestricted naval warfare by default. As has been discussed previously, this means the US can initiate naval combat against Vichy convoys.

Correct. The US can freely attack any Vichy ships when at war with all Axis major powers.

50. Unrestricted Naval Warfare – U.S. naval and aircraft units at sea can freely attack, and be attacked by, any Axis naval and aircraft units. You still can’t port attack, shore bombard, ground strike, strategically bombard, carpet bomb, or fly ground support. You can escort Allied convoys in any sea area with any number of SCS or CVs. You can now move any number of ships together as 1 naval move, instead of counting each ship as a naval move. You can only choose this entry option if you have already chosen entry option 38.
I had not realized the implications of this rule, either, but
When the U.S. is at war with every unconquered Axis major power, you are treated as having chosen every entry option (except U.S. entry option 44).
Thus, the US, being at war with every major power, has picked entry option 50, and thus may "freely attack...any Axis naval and aircraft units." This clearly includes the units of a neutral Vichy. Note that a neutral Vichy's naval units may attack the US as well.

If there are both Axis and Allied units from other countries in the sea area, and they are at war with each other, the way the combat rules work, the Allied units would fight the Vichy units, even though they are not at war with Vichy.

As is all too often the case, my signature is apt.
I thought I knew how to play this game....
