annoying noise when you click buttons

Sorry if this has already been asked. Is there a way to silence that obnoxious "plonk" noise every time you click an interface button, without silencing the other sound effects? I like the little chime when you get a new message at the top. The "plonk" is loud even with the sound at the next to lowest setting, and at that level the chime is inaudible.

I believe Darkspire has a mod where UI volume has been decreased by -20db. Here is his repository of files: matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3450380
