LR Scanner minimap toggle problems for ships

Post by corwin90 »

I added Long Range Scanners to my explorer ships and then moved them out to my borders. Then, I clicked the minimap toggle to see if I had full scanner coverage. But the grey circle showing long range scanners never showed anything for my explorer ships.

At first, I thought maybe the long range scanners simply do not work on ships. But several forum posts seem to say you can mount them on ships.

Is it just a problem with the minimap toggle?

Thanks!

I think there is a delay before the scanner circles appear (and also the influence circles). Also, ships does not seem to show scanner circles while moving, which may explain why you did not see them.

As far as I have noticed, they do scan while moving, though, you just don't see their circles.

Be aware that quite a bit of energy is needed to hyperspace and scan at the same time.

Thanks! I think the bit about the energy usage of the hyper drive may be the key point.

When I first constructed an explorer with the LR scanner, I saw the scanner circle immediately. But I didn't see it with the moving ship until it had stopped--and had been stopped for a while.

Thanks again!

If you cruise above territory near a foreign capital, you should see the ships and bases of the area appear within scan range proving that the scanner is active even if the circle is not there. It probably disappeared in the graphics update in the shadows expansion.

Energy required is not more than hyperdrive+static, the same as always, the static is just much higher with a long range scanner.
