My carriers replenishing aircraft from enemy base?

Post by Deathifier »

So my carrier fleet is up at truk annoying the AI, the SBD's are set to port attack to try and sink some of the ships anchored there.

Each attack the enemies AA and the ships supporting AA slaughter the SBD's, at least half of ~100 that go in don't come back, and the rest come back with damage.

What supprised me is that they kept getting replacement aircraft, for example the CV Yorktown had a group of SBD's at 10 aircraft (9 damaged, 1 flying). The next turn, it had 12, then 14, then 16.
Similar effects were seen in the rest of the flight groups.

I also found out that they will upgrade their aircraft near Truk, or possibly anywhere, the SBD's I put in Lunga, they upgraded too...

Of course it was frought will peril, an enemy BB decided to tangle with the carriers (see image, those are some mean carriers!) and then after waiting for the stockpile to build up I discover that the enemy AI had sent ALL of my carriers that were at Truk home, the only one left in the theatre is the CVE Chenango (at ~59% sys damage) hiding in Rabul!
It limped up towards truk, and sure enough when the SB2C pool filled up over 18 the 14 SBD's on it were upgraded - it was 8 hexes away from truk and planes couldn't fly (it had no CAP, just an army of surface ships following) so I'm not sure how they upgraded in that respect either :)

Deathifier,
That's a good catch on a new bug. Now I almost wish I had stuck my carrier tf's in at Truk, though I'd have been peeved if they'd been sent back to Pearl. Carrier's are only supposed to get new replacement planes while docked or anchored in a friendly port, and here you got them while sailing around at an enemy port. Some guys have all the luck.

Hopefully the UV team will notice this, if not keep blasting away on this issue until we know one of them sees it and acknowledges it. Funny that the new fix to limit plane replacement at sea has a new bug that allows it at enemy ports. Not quite what they had envisioned I'm sure.

Hi, Is this beast back? Sounds like a combo of old bugs. The enemy port being confused with friendly and CV getting replacements at sea. I'm sure it is going to go high on the list of things to fix.

I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

This is a game started from version 2 about a week ago and I have no prior version saves at all.

Here I made up a save which shows it happening:

Up near truk is the carrier fleet (leading), surface fleet and replenishment fleet.

If you check out the carrier fleet, you'll notice that almost all the SBD's are gone, in fact on CV Lexington they have one group with none left at all.

Move the carriers to Truk, and next turn every single SBD group goes back to max A/C :)
