Lost pilots

So while trying to figure out the intricacies of pilot replacements, I did something really dumb.

On the Group Reserves screen, I started releasing hundreds of pilots like a madman....thinking they would be 'released' into the General Reserve.

Much to my horror, I only had six pilots remaining in the General Reserves after all this...

Where did they go? Drawing a regular Replacement pilot still only gives me an untrained noob..

Did I just relieve them all of duty?

There is delay. So they will appear.

Do you know what is the point of releasing pilots from the Reserves screens?

There is a limit to the total number of pilots you can have. The original WitP used to hit that limit in long games. The limit has been expanded in AE, but there still is one. Releasing low quality pilots from the reserve pool frees up pilot slots.
