Game stuck at return to base

Post by gautebirkeli »

On return to base the French submarine in the Baltics has nowhere to go, and should be destroyed. Instead it blocks the game from progressing as it cant be returned to base anywhere. By the way, those submarines should have been destroyed two turns ago when Denmark was conquered. Instead I was able to let them stay at sea.

That the submarines where able to stay at sea in a closed Baltic looks like a bug to me. One turn could have been possible since conquest is after return to base but two turns do sound like a bug.

But there is no bug with the submarine in the zero box. You need to manually destroy it in order to continue. You pick it up and then click <backspace> while holding the counter and the submarine will be destroyed and you should be able to advance the game.

----

You should look at this save Steve since there is a bug here. The ship in the zero box must be destroyed because it has no port within reach but the ship in a higher box is allowed to remain in the sea area.

Depending on the box they originally were on, it's perfectly according to wif rules. Like in any other sea.

You missed the last part of the return to base rules.

RAC: 13.4 Return to base
....
When you can’t return to base
Destroy any unit (checked individually) that has no base to return to. It makes no difference if a unit
couldn’t return to base because it was out of range or was blocked by naval movement restrictions (see 8.2.10 and
11.4.4). [Clarification. You can not return to base to a port you could not normally make a naval move into - Dec.
23, 2007.]
Destroy any unit at sea that couldn’t have returned to base (even if it could stay at sea). [Clarification.
Infinite naval units may remain at sea provided at least 1 space (i.e., at a minor port) is available to which they could
have returned to base
- Dec. 28, 2007.]

True.

And I have been holding those subs some turns while I planned wether I could try to retake Denmark and whether it was worth it both to save subs and open a new front to GE... A couple of games of many, of course...
