Norway 1940

Post by CatLord »

I would be interested to know if people have design scenarios or a campaign of the British/French corps in Norway 1940.

If not, would you have good source that would help me design some ? :D

Redleg has made several very good scenarios on the french and polish forces in Norway. The titles do not presently to my mind but I will check.

I seem to remember that Wild Bill did a FJ versus Norwegian airbase battle, one where ammo canisters are 'chuted in for the Germans. Its around somewhere. So far as Redleg is concerned, his URL: http://redleg.homestead.com/

Also try the Matrixz Home page for links - not sure exactly where the Wild Bill one is calling home these days.

Maybe BIll will wake up and tell us???

You can always roll your own in the Battle Generator. As to maps, I don't know - what I do is generate random maps until I get one I like, exiting and restarting the game if necessary.

OK, I think I have found them (well at least 2 of them :) but I have downloaded everything).

Thanks all.

Bing,
it is mainly to design "historical" scenarios on the Norway campaign.

But I have found all the OOB of this period on this great link:

OOB Norway 1940

Now I just need facts and maps, and I could begin to work :D

Yes, not a bad website. Incomplete and probably incorrect for the USSR if as they say based upon GERMAN sources.

TO&E are difficult to come by for the Soviets: I will defer in all such matters to Steve Zaloga, whose Red Army Handbook is indispensible. TO&E for every Soviet army organization, from pre-WW2 through to 1945. Zaloga uses official Red Army documents. Not everyone will want to lay out the money for Zaloga's book, I understand that.

I have no idea if the Norwegian or any of the other TO&E on this site (not new to me) are accurate. How do I know Zaloga is accurate? I haven't found him to be anything other than that, with one minor exception and that is open to question.

Wulfir - That's a crackerjack of a website, one of the best I have seen. Includes TO&E AND OOB's - an attempt to report the numbers and equipment which actually fought. Wish more sites could be this good.

Have basic material

Post by BruceAZ_MatrixForum »

I completed a campaign around the invasion of Norway (1940) with the human player as the Germans and the AI as the Norwegians, French and British.

Have some excellent battle maps sent to me from a friend in Norway. However, many are in German or Norwegian and you may need help interpreting them. The campaign has 9 or 10 battles and covers the initial invasion of Norway in 1940. All the battles are done but not tested.

I quit working on it as it is in SPWAW 5.0 and the Norway OOB was constantly being messed with and newer versions of SPWAW arrived so I shelved the project. Last time it saw any activity was about a year ago. The most interesting was the Oslofjord battle and airborne assault of Fornebu.

If you know how to design scenarios or campaigns in SPWAW, you are welcome to finish it. I have about 10 great web sites on the historical side of the invasion and a ton of historical docs. It appears the OOB's are now constant so it may be a good project if you want to tackle it.

The nodes still need work and repairs, and you will need a good test team.

The key armament in the campaign was the German (test) heavy tank Panzer-Abteilung zb V.40 (NBfz VI) of which five were with the assault forces to show the world Germany indeed have a “heavy” tank. My sources indicate it was very effective as a infantry tank. Wasn’t very good against armor but scared the hell out of the Norwegians and a good bunker-buster!

The rest are the usual light tanks for that period – PZ 1 and 2’s. I got a great icon for it (thanks Mike!) but ended up using an old USSR tank icon and changing the name and features in the Editor because of problems with the OOB. Worked well enough.

If you are interested, send me an email.

The only comment I got about your campaign so far (I have not played it myself for the moment to be honest), is that the Germans end up too much powerfull for the poor Allys AI for the last battles.
