Which is your favorite Steel Panthers Version and Nation to play with?

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Which is your favorite Steel Panthers Version and Nation to play with?

Post by Gallo Rojo »

I’m interested in having an idea about which Steel Panther version is player’s favorite related with which their Nation play preference.
I’m centering in the main powers that fought in Europe because Pacific theater doesn’t interests me.
Some reasons about the preferences will be also welcomed.
Best, Gallo

74 readings and no reply? sheesh..

Version: H2H

Reason: What can I say? Leo made a good game close to perfect. I doubt I'll return to 7.1 anytime soon except for mega-campaigning and if some really nice scenarios come out for 7.1 exclusively. Only down side is that AWFUL move sound larger GE tanks has - makes me think they broke down every time.

Nation: Germany

Reason: Three reasons really  1) German infantry is second to none. As a basic unit, they rule with their resiliance and discipline. IMO, this is where the German army really shines, not the armored formations. 2) I'm more familiar with the GE OOB and know more about the units abilities and weaknesses than for other armies. 3) The wide range of more or less capable motorized vehicles. Some are like having a fine surgical instrument at your hands, like the Tiger and Jagdpanthers. Others are plain fun. Or wacky. :)

Ok I am guilty of playing the Germans because 88s are invincible at the start.

But in truth I like to play all the nations, and if Combat Leader doesn't show up soon, I will get around to fighting with Brazilians I am sure heheh.

I picked 7.1 simply because it's what I know.
I can't claim any experience with H2H but I have seen enough to say, try it if you haven't.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.

So far, Germans and 7.1

It seems to me that the German armor is way too expensive in H2H, while everyone elses is not. Plus, I cannot read German, and I cannot find anything on the German OOB in H2H. Like Les said, 7.1 is what I know.

I am NOT putting H2H down! Leo put a hell of alot of work into it, and it shows! Very good mod, I just do not like the points I mentioned is all. If I want to play the Germans, I will do it in 7.1

H2H and Russian Army

Post by Orzel Bialy »

is my choice right now. As Goblin said, the German stuff is priced pretty high....and you get more bang for the buck as the Soviets without a doubt.
However, I think the pricing is pretty well thought out. (Calm down Goblin...I can tell your green fur is standing on end with that comment. lol :D ) I have started to play a short campaign under H2H...and although it sucks not being able to buy what I used to...I think it also goes a long way to portraying the fact that Germany put more on quality than quantity.
Besides...I like the German wording...just like SPWW2...I think it adds some spice to the mix. Not to mention Gob...you can always file through the pretty pictures to find what you want. :D

You have a valid point. I do not think the game accurately reflectes it though. German tanks die, and die easily in this game. When you are outmatched two to one in tanks that are just as good (game-wise), well, need I say more?

If its H2H, I agree. The Soviets are good to take. As are the Americans (downgun that dam low velocity 75mm).

On prices; I took a quick peek at the upped prices on GE armor - it ain't that much ?! The only tanks I found that was outright more expensive were the Tiger IE and Königstiger, who both are almost 30 points more expensive.

Otherwise, it's withing the 10 point range?

Ok, perhaps the price increases combined with initially high prices is what I am noticing. Or low prices on the other nations. Why raise the prices when they were high to begin with? Before anyone spouts off with the "industrial production turnout" crap, I am more concerned with game balance and fun than I am with who made what, when they made it, and how many they made. This game assumes you have what you want to have, or it would not let the player purchase, it would stick you with a force.

Also, my apologies to Gallo for misdirecting his thread... I was not going to post my reasons because of the predictable debate that would come up, but did anyways.

USA & 7.1

I'm infantry guy, and US infantry is best and most useful in SPWaW.

Any-one, any-time, any-where.

The Germans are pretty amazing, but I usually like to try to keep it quasi-historical... and the temptation to replace my precious 8-rad's (I love those buggers, I wanna' get one to put in my parking space :D ) with KingTigers is just too much for me.

The Japanese are inspiring to me for the same reason the SS are: I'm very interested in fanatical warriors.

China... Lordy how I love them, ever since I got into Romance of the Three Kingdoms. The epic struggle of KMT vs. ChiComs set to the backdrop of WWII is just so amazingly dramatic, so poetic.

Overall, I'd say I prefer 7.1 very slightly. I love H2H's authentic names and the new pics, but I usually don't want game balance... I want to see what might have happened. There are times, however, when I do want to play H2H.

Upshot? I can't vote. Too much good to say about both versions.
