Lost my UV saved games!
One of my PBEM opponents can no longer find his saved games (.dat) using the saved scenario interface. Now another PBEM opponent has sent me his latest turn, and I can no longer find my saved games!!
Is there some trick to this now? I have the files in my save directory, I just don't see them anymore on my saved scenario list, so my PBEM games have ground to a halt.

The patch info sheet said you could just re-name the saves and they would work. This is incorrect.
What you actually have to do is go in and SAVE the games with the new file extension. YOu can do this through XP easy enough but a bit more complicated if you don't have XP. For myself, I found that saving the games from my mail folder to UV was the easiest route.
And yet I still lost one solo game . . . .
But all the pbems work fine. /cheer

It is not, you can just rename them

I don´t know what your´re doing there butit sounds more complicated then necessary.
Just use your "windows explorer" or "my computer". Make file extensions "visible" and rename them, é voila.
No, not really. Stupid Win98 insists on naming them save001.uvs.dat.
I tried to rename them via "rename" in Dos mode. Renaming worked, but the savegames are still not found.

OK, I explain again (it´s also stated in Davids post regarding the release of v2.0):
Make file extensions "visible" and rename them, é voila.
Make your file extensions visible by :
In "MyComputer" or the "Windows Explorer" just go to:
Tools -> Folder Options -> View
There uncheck "Hide extensions for known files types"
note: the path above is from WindowsXP. The path might by slighty different on other OSs. But you get the idea.

I just upgraded to 2.11 and did this procedure exactly as you outlined it above by renaming the files and unchecking the "Hide extensions" box. However all my saved game file slots are empty now. What do I do now other than uninstall and go back to 2.0? Thanks.
Elmo
P.S. - I tried clicking on an empty slot just for fun. The game goes back to the Main menu screen and then hangs.

Thanks for trying to help, but I've read therm several times and they're not working for me.Originally posted by XPav
It does work. I don't mean to be mean, but you're doing it wrong. Read the directions in the 2.10 update closely.
To be clear I did these steps:
"1) The autosave in slot zero should be renamed uv000_autosave.uvs
2) The combat vcr replay in slot one should be renamed uv001_combatsave.uvs
3) The other files should be renamed, using the following convention:
uvxxx_scen.uvs where xxx is the slot number"
I then uncheck the box for "Hide extensions". I then start up the game in 2.11, go to the Load screen and all the slots are empty. If you see anything wrong with this please let me know what I did wrong.

Uncheck hide extensions first. Otherwise, when you rename, it's still hiding the .dat extension and thus you're not able to overwrite it.

Ok, I'll try that tonight. Thanks. Maybe it's just me but it wasn't clear from the 2.10 Online Instructions that you had to do things in that order.Originally posted by Erik Rutins

If by any chance it still does not work when you try this tonight please feel free to send a PM to me with your email included and I will send you my email and I could fix them for you. I have done it for two people so far.
Cheers
Dan
You know, I can't figure out a really good reason why you guys changed the save game naming at this late a date, especially after a major patch.
If a consumer buys the game off the shelf, plays a few games, and then runs trueupdate, his save games will be gone. Yes, if you follow the directions, they'll come back, but you can see what happens in this thread -- for various reasons it still doesn't work.
And what was gained really? The description name in the title. Whee. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
<insert yet another rant about why you should have used the standard windows file open box, because that would have made these problems never happen>

I love it when a plan comes together.

XPav,
What's done is done, but we should have had the patch rename the files automatically. I think I might just post a small program to do this automatically since so many folks seem to have trouble with it.

Ok I'm back in business. Apparently even though I told XP to unhide the extensions it didn't do it the first time. This time I made sure the extensions weren't hidden and I was able to rename the files and my game sees them. Thanks to you all, and no thanks to Bill Gates, for the help.
