Can't Load Unit From Wake Island?

Post by rkr1958 »

I moved a transport to sea in the Marianas from Truk. When I hit load from coast hex I'm given the option to load MacArthur on Truk and Nimitz on Kwajalien. However, there's no option to load the 5-3 US army corps on Wake island.

Is this a bug or did I mess up and the 5-3 is forever stuck on Wake (except maybe for air transport)?

Also, when I move the 4-3 transport from Truk to the Marianas (an adjacent sea area), why can it make it only to sea box 2 and not 3? I'm only moving it one Sea Area?

Are you playing with the Amphib option turned on?

If no it's a bug. But It's often used and if so in your game, only Divs and Marines can be loaded onto a TRS if they are not in a port.

I'm playing with that option off. So I guess it's a bug. I'll upload my game turn next.

Isn't that a 5-3 INF? How do AMPH factor into this?
For the 2box, could be Rough Seas or Presence.

I'm playing without the amphibious optional rule. I had no problem disembarking the 5-3 corps there. But now I can't load him to a transport at sea or even move a transport to the island.

Seas are calm and no enemy units are present. Even if they were, would the fact that the USN has ships there, which were left there from last turn, cancel that effect out?

No, weather is clear and there are no enemy vessels. It's a bug.

Thanks! So I'll use this thread to report two bugs? The 5-3 stuck on Wake island and the sea movement reduction bug?

No, that's correct, since there is a CW ship in Truk too.

Hi rkr, I just did a new game Guadalcanal which means that Wake is Japanese controlled, in the initial setup I put a Japanese Marine unit a 6/3 on Wake Island. Also from a previous setup I did a debarkation from a transport to Wake Island without any problems.

I sent a transport and an amphib transport, neither could pick up the Japanese unit, I never noticed it before because I never put any units on Wake because there is no port there, that is why your transport cannot land at Wake, no port. A possibility is that there is no way a unit on Wake can be debarked with the coding the way it is, just a guess, not that game computer smart[:(] I agree with your assessment.

No, that's correct, since there is a CW ship in Truk too.
That explains that part.

Don't mean to be dense, but I'm confused. The CW RN ships in Truk are costing the USN movement points? Or, is there a bug?

There is a cost in movement points as per RAC.

Read the enumeration for naval movement costs.

It can be easy to miss in RAC but here it is.

RAC: 11.4.2 Moving naval units
.....
How far units can move
A unit must stop moving when you have spent its entire movement allowance or it has reached the limit of its
range, whichever happens first.
You spend 1 point of a unit’s range:
• for each sea area and port it moves into.
You spend 1 point of a unit’s movement allowance:
• for each sea area and port it moves into;
• if it starts the movement out of supply;
• if it starts the impulse in a port with naval units controlled by another major power; and
• for each point of the (unmodified) search number of the section you put the unit into.

Wow and Thanks! That will be one rule I'm sure to remember. Lesson learned is that I need to rethink how I treat and where I base the RN and USN. Unlike other strategic ww2 games, you can't treat them the same. I guess the 1 MP penalty for basing them together represents the friction that exist between two close allies.

With respect to the allied corps stuck on Wake Island, is this a feature or a bug? For you rules gurus, what is the status of this corps with respect to the WiF rules?

This is a bug. There is no obvious reason you cannot embark an INF corps on a TRS that ends its move in an adjacent sea area.

It is indeed a bug... retested and reported by Bo in the beta forum.
