PBEM Unfriendly

Post by cptharper »

Hi,

First, thanks for such a great game. I am thoroughly enjoying single player. I am excited about playing it as PBEM, but I've tried and found it almost too frustrating to continue.

Please make the PBEM more friendly:

1 - Have the game automatically save PBEM files in a different PBEM directory so we don't have to hunt for them

2 - Have the replay/turn in the same file package so we only have to send and receive one thing

3 - Have filenames that aren't simply numerals (and confusable with our singleplayer saves)

Until then, at least update the manual with step-by-step PBEM instructions (and post a sticky on the forum with the same instructions).

Part of the reason I bought this game was to play PBEM, but it is just too unfriendly. In a game with a steep learning curve, could you at least take care of the techical aspects of multiplayer?

I hate to complain about a game you've given such excellent support for, but perhaps this PBEM issue could be a focus for a near-future patch? It would certainly extend the life of the game.

Thanks!

Couple of pbem tips:

When you save a game (pbem or vs AI) you can write a description. When you look in your save directory either through windows explorer or outlook, etc, you will see the description as part of the file name.

for example I play many pbem's at once and save my games like this:

uv008_Caltone--Japan---JoeBlow--Allies
uv010_JoeSchmo--Japan---Caltone--Allies
uv020_scen16-Vs-AI-v2.11

When saving or emailing I can easily see which save slot is which.

The date is saved with the file and shown in the save screen.

Remember slot 1 is always the replay. As Japan you send it with the turn, as Allies you only send the game turn.

Hope this helps and welcome aboard.
