Mar 1, 42 Start data

Post by MikeB »

My opponent and i have agreed to document the status of OOB for Feb 28/Mar 1 of 1942. The data will be in excel spreadsheet format.

While the Germans captured Leningrad, advanced to city n of Moscow(Kalinin) and ne of Moscow(Valogda); they have retreated to avoid the blizzard shatter rule to Leningrad. The rail-line Rzhev - Vyazma was fought over but retained by the Russians(i think). Bryansk and Orel were the furthest eastern Germans in Dec 41. The germans were stopped in the south outside of Poltava and could not cross the river near Zaporozhe.

The German retreat gave back Kiev, Gomel, Mogilev, Vitebsk, Velikiye Luki, Demyansk and Tikhvin to the Russians.

Both commanders feel somewhat disillusioned and fearful of the summer 42 campaign. It appears to be a good game...though we had what might be unorthodox "house rules". I think the major one was that the Russians were encouraged to do 2 saves per turn from Aug 10, 41 through to Sept 30 or Oct 30, 41.

The emails agreeing to exchange OOB follow:

Mike -> Kerry Dec 15 2002.
yes, i started going through the book OOB...to discover ohsomany units. It will be a BIG job...but i think worth while for both of us...as well as the potential reading public.

And here i was feeling uncertain WHY for, would the Germans defend a foreign city like Leningrad. I don't quite follow your reasoning behind no more blizzard attacks by Ruskies. I did note the jump in air damage from my last records of Feb 1,42 to Feb 8,42. G:6258 -> 6790 ... vs.... R:10029 - 10726. Remember to make a note...for post game communique.

My Feb 8,42 actions only account for 159 R deaths and 75 G deaths. I did not look closely at the air stats of your turn. Also, i tend not to count damages...as the air will return.

I do admit being surprised that you even had some 350 ftr in north to make your attacks in 2nd half of Feb 1, 42 turn.

The Yak1s were a bit of a pain.

Your northern Army#13 took 4 assaults before it would retreat. Stubborn they were.

Army #43 retreated at the 1st opportunity...and i was looking forward to more rounds at this site...where your unescorted bombers showed up.

I think i am trying to live to the spirit of our agreement on air attacks. You did say Germans could be unlimited in Blizzard. I have tried to limit attacks to 2 escorted bmb runs per target. A failed bombing run and unescorted G bombers dont count...per my interpretation[comment?].

I will have to read up on the notes as to our air agreement for spring/summer 42.

Re tanks....remember my losses of 2.0% for tanks not in cities...of which there are a number. I have tended to keep my new tanks in the reserve pool to avoid attrition fates. The movement attrition during Blizzard must have been significant - though i still believe was worth it relative to the fate of shattering.

Remember that the OOB focuses upon individual division units...without divulging their korps affiliation or HQ location.

Mike,
I am Happy to do this(OOB) although it will be a big job.
I have looked at losses and then estimated replacements and Tank/A/craft production to come up with the same results.
By my estimations You have more Tanks than me and excluding I16s etc more Fighters.
The only area I have an advantage is in Infantry but they are only about half the experience level of the Germans so that should even things out.
I think you will find that you are stronger in equipment than you thought.
Also I will not attack any German Korps during Blizzards for the next three weeks as the combat still seems to be dodgy.
1st of march will se the Blizzards end.

Mike -> Kerry Dec 11, 2002.
PROPOSAL:
We do an oob on excel for Feb 28/Mar1 week. sort of like page 53-68 but with Exp and Readiness identified...as well as the component units of each div....tank(type of tank), inf, art, A.T., flak, recon.

We do not identify which korps/HQ that individual div/units are located.

This may be of interest to Matrix gamers who wish to start a 42 campaign from Mar 1, 42. It would also help to reassure us that there is somewhat of an equal - fair game out there worthy of continuance...by lessening our fears as to the assets of the opponent.

____________________________________________________Victory Stats @ Feb 8, 2002.

sqd 21,744

Guns 5,641

Alt-R will create a report for each side showing the status of all units, and a lot of other information, if that will help in your task.

Post by MikeB »

Attached is a summary of German position relative to Campaign 42 June 28, 42. The current time is Mar 3, 42...before the Germans do anything with their turn. The Russian side is not yet available. maybe Sunday Dec 22?

The file is in excel.
The alt R table is available should anyone wish me to send it to them. Please request via private email.
