Gary's been coding games since when, mid 80s? I doubt he'll be doing any other major designs past the big one that joins it all together. Unless you don't think he'd ever want to retire. I've loved every game he's ever made and would love him to go on till he falls over at his keyboard, but my guess is retirement would follow this last big effort.

He promised to re build Steel Panthers, and I'm holding him to it :)

He can retired any time after that.
Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

Retirement? Can't blame him for that, since I just did last month! I guess he might be as old as me (Can't tell from his photo on the 2by3 site)I do remember his games back in the SSI text game days, seems to me.

Actually, he came in after the text days (ie. Computer Napoleonics from 1980) and is responsible for the entire "dot" days (graphics in lo-res... See 1982's Guadalcanal Campaign & Bomb Alley). Where it really took off for me was with 1985' Kampfgruppe (until I stumbled on it's Achilles heel, which was corrected for Battlegroup).

Having 32 years of published computer wargames is nothing to sneeze at. We should all be looking forward his next 32 years worth! I'm already salivating over "Armchairs in the East," "Wheelchairs in the West," "Geriatrics against Japan."

How about a monster US Civil War game? Something like a 200 yard hex with millions of total hexes!

until I stumbled on it's Achilles heel

That wouldn't have been the unlimited stacking feature would it? [:'(]

Civil War is not in the Grigsby Game cycle... WWII or WWIII/Cold War.

I was trying not to ruin it for others that hadn't stumbled upon it (younger people should really look into retro-gaming more). If a person had enough initiative, I believe the fix from Battlegroup could be incorporated into Kampfgruppe (especially as most of Kampfgruppe is written in Applesoft basic).

But I sure had a whole lot of fun with it until I accidentally stumbled on that. That was the game that turned me on the Eastern front (and off of the Western front). Not only that, but it convinced me that computer wargaming was more fun than a hangover! (although there were similarities the next day, regarding amounts of sleep obtained)

Are you aware this is the Matrix Games general discussion area? There is absolutely no room for facts here! This area is reserved for name calling, feuds, politics, European-only sports, slander, libel, misquotes, misdirection, and spam (if you don't believe me, randomly read three or more other threads).

(And besides, that's an anomaly outside of the cycle! I think he must've been dabbling in substances between cycles! That's the only valid explanation for that aberration from a well-known business plan!)

Yeah Gary been coding building those games since the 80's I doubt if he will still continue making more. Someone close to him may pick up the pieces and keep trying to improve it and well expand it.

You are correct, after the post I got to thinking that maybe it was Norm Koeger I was thinking about!
Retirement is fun, I actually reloaded East Front on this new computer and trying to learn it over again before West Front is out. Not been playing many wargames lately both my longtime gaming buddies got caught up in life and don't play anymore.
Who made that color east front game I played on my Atari 130 back in 1978/79 more or less? Was that Gary? Losing my memory I'm afraid.
Chris Crawford did Eastern Front.

Does Gary Grigsby lurk or post here? If he does, presumably he's not using his name as his forum handle.

Jim Burns mentioned that he's planning a massive merger of WITE/WITW. I know this has been asked before, but is there any realistic possibility they'd toss in WITP for good measure? :)

Joel Billings was answering questions in the WITE forum. And he was using his real name.
