Does size matter?

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Does size matter?

Post by HeinzBaby »

Is Target size taken into consideration in firefights?
We know Soviet MBT's, MICV's are smaller that their NATO counter parts..

BTW this is a fantastic Sim,
Just picked this up from Steam, reminds me alot of SPI's MechWar2 'Red Star White Star' from back in the 80's
Getting through the Tutorials as NATO, getting chopped up badly but keep coming back for more abuse..lol

Given the scale of the fighting we do not apply modifiers for vehicle size. We already take into account based on orders that crews will do the best to mask with cover, move to get cleaner shots, shoot at better exposed targets. If we were scaled down to a pure tactical level we would look harder at that influence and others.

Glad you are enjoying it.

What I'd be interested in knowing is, does the size of a 'unit' matter?

i.e. a NATO tank Platoon is 4 tanks. But the smallest individual unit that Warsaw Pact has is a (I think) company, with 10-12 tanks. Therefore is a Soviet tank 'company' easier to hit with artillery or even conventional weapons than a NATO 'platoon' is?

Yes, in those cases the numbers have effect. As does the number of men in a squad. All, of course, tempered by range and relative cover, etc.

Welcome to the forums HeinzBaby! Glad you have you join us.

Size matters to me. I just don't care for skinny women...[:'(]

Oh, you mean in FPC....well, yes, as a matter of fact it does.

5 tanks shooting at you don't have the same effect as 10 tanks shooting at you.
4 artillery tubes firing a mission don't have the same effect as 9 artillery tubes shooting at you.
Having a single squad in a hex during being fired at with artillery doesn't have the same effect as shooting at a hex with 15 squads in it.

Size matters in everything to do with combat and movement.

Good Hunting.
