Air Combat Resolution Speed

Post by Dereck »

I must have hit something - what I don't know - but on previous turns when I resolved the air phase the combat resolutions went by really quickly.

This last time they went so slow and there seemed there was a line on the map showing which hex a bomber mission was on.

How would I get it to not show detail but resolve at the fastest speed?

USS Midway CV-41 (1981-1984)
Whidbey Island, WA (1984-1986)

Keys 0-7 affect the detail you're shown. I don't think you're shown anything at 0 - at 1 you get lots of hexes lighting up to see where things are going on, but that's about all. At 7 you get every shot fired.

For what you're asking, I would say 1 is what you had it on before.

You can use the button that controls air resolution, or just change the detail level with the number keys. Hit 0 for maximum speed - the higher the number the more information you will get.

Erik, the button has 4 different settings, what does that do compared to the 0-7 keys?

1 Plane = 0, etc etc I guess. Word of warning though, I find that having high level e.g. 7 or 4 planes lit and doing strategic bombing on long distance can wear your patience. Seems like the high detail really does need time to think on strategic sorties. Watching the red line move 1 hex every few minutes is kinda too detailed. That's what I am noticing in my games anyway.

It is very detailed on 7. Actually, I'm really pleased that option is available and have already spent some hours just watching that screen, until you realise it will literally take all night just to watch the air phase of one turn! Very epic if you have the time :)

There is an issues with map redraw function which is called much more often than it should when launching intercepts. tm.asp?m=3752786&mpage=2

I suggest not to go above LOW when resolving big raids.

I think 2 planes lit provides enough info for me. I am going to twinkle with settings to slow the ground units down when moving just for flavour.

The only thing I don't like at the moment is the fact that the camera does not snap to unit during its movement. You are constantly trying to place the camera in the best spot to see any air action however I do believe on 2 plane lit settings, it does kinda show you some of the final runs.

I guess though, that once fully accustomed to the game, we would naturally speed up the air resolutions phases. Not sure yet If there are better ways to get a speedy but see each attack option. At the moment 2 planes lit is doing the best but I may try 3 Plane lit and see how that goes. I prefer using the planes lit button rather than 0-7 but maybe I should try the 5-6 setting?

Let me know if you find a good setting.

Yep I think that is what I had experienced. Is it a Nvidia driver/card issue then or just a bug in the game?

It repeats with my amd/ati card, can't blame nvidia anymore. Should be fixed in next patch.
