HQ Skeleton Suggestions (Allies)

Post by Dereck »

I'm just trying to make a general HQ skeleton for each level of HQ that I can try to fill with the necessities as a minimum allotment.

This is what I have so far. The numbers in the brackets are what I have as the desired amount though subject to change. Anybody else have any suggestions?

<HIGH COMMAND HQ>
+--> [3] ARMY GROUP HQ
+--> [?] ARMY HQ
+--> [?] CORPS HQ
+--> [4] ANTI-AIRCRAFT

<ARMY GROUP HQ>
+--> [3] ARMY HQ
+--> [4] ANTI-AIRCRAFT
+--> [16] ENGINEER
+--> [4] CONSTRUCTION

<ARMY HQ>
+--> [5] CORPS HQ
+--> [6] ARTILLERY
+--> [4] ANTI-AIRCRAFT
+--> [3] ENGINEER
+--> [3] CONSTRUCTION

<CORPS HQ>
+--> [1] ARMOR
| [3] ARMOR SUPPORT (1 bn @Infantry Division)
+--> [2] INFANTRY
| [3] INFANTRY SUPPORT (1 bn @Armored Division)
+--> [6] ARTILLERY
+--> [3] ANTI-TANK (1 bn per Division**)
+--> [4] ANTI-AIRCRAFT
+--> [3] SP ARTILLERY (1 bn per Division**)
+--> [2] ENGINEER
| [3] ENGINEER SUPPORT (1 bn per Division)

That looks very good to me. I only wonder if five corps HQs per army might be one too many. I'm trying to remember what a historical army would have had. But if the numbers add up, that's all that matters. I've wondered about the construction battalions; are they better off in the corps or in the army HQs? I have thought of them as being extraneous to corps level operations (on the Allied side), but I may be missing something.

Maximum 5 Corps per army. An army can have a max of 15 divisions so it's either 3 corps of 5 divisions or 5 corps of 3 divisions.

I figure if i keep 3 divisions to a corps it will be easier for me to fill out an army even if only with 3 corps and having 5 corps may give me planning flexibility.
