Factory damage photos

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Factory damage photos

Post by Kumppi »

Would it be possible to add how long has it been since the last photo in the hex popup when factory location toggle is turned on?

I find the logistic phase event log to be not very user friendly when checking this information. I don't understand the order that the list is in, but it sure is not in alphabetical order.

Good idea! Maybe a turn number by the photo number? To tell you what turn you took them?

I agree, I don't even run recon on strat because I can't be bothered by the photo page, it should be cleaned up.

You should always run strat recon even if you don't care about knowing for yourself what the damage is. Higher detection levels for the factories will lead to increased damage when you bomb the factory (at least I'm pretty sure that this is true).

Joel is correct, if you don't have recon values in the hex your air attacks do not do nearly as well. Sometimes you will flat out miss the target.

The problem is you have a limited amount of recon and when I first try to select my targets I want to know how accurate the information is. If I see a HI factory with 100% damage I don't want to go against it, but if the last photo was taken ages ago it might already be repaired.

Yes, it's a good idea to have the recon info show up in the rollover when factory info is being shown so I'll add that to the list as it should be very easy to add (famous last words). Thanks Scott for confirming that recon is important for the success of the missions.

It takes about 2 turns for strat recon levels (in a narrow area of about 4x4 hxs in my experience) to raise to a significant level. By then, bombing damages starts raising by about 20-40% to the pre-strat-recon damage figures. Provided weather remains clear and enough bombers arrive at target (escorts!). I really like your air campaign part of WitW, it's damned rewarding when you find your time to fiddle around using all the possible factors involved.

It is useful to run the Strategic Recon on alternate days to the bombing missions.
