a few questions

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

a few questions

Post by sven6345789 »

I do not have the game yet (that will surely change).

air war
1) lets say i want to tell the 8th airforce to bombard U-Boat pens and the Bomber command to attack manpower. Target area doesn't matter (so if ai bomber command wants to bomb Nuremberg one day and Essen the next thats ok).
How do i set the game?
2) lets say now that i want a geographic approach. I want to take out production areas between Emden and Hamburg; which industry they bomb doesn't matter. both 8th airforce and Bomber Command shall attack the same targets.
How do i set up the game?

East Front
Can i calculate how many units i can take out or is there a soviet random factor that might lead to the one corps to many i withdrew?
How is soviet strength calculated?
How does the front advance? fixed like in 12 o clock high or the old war in russia? or fluent?

Where some of the air war aspects implemented in war in the east? maybe i missed something but this seems to be completely redone. am i right?

As for the air game: you'll be able to do everything you've described. Between the air doctrines and the air directives, your squadrons can perform multiple missions against multiple targets each week. For example, you can set X number of B-17 squadrons of 8th AF to attack Kiel's U-boat factories. Another group can attack Hambutg's manpower, its heavy industry and its vehicle production. It's just a matter of designing individual air directives for the selected HQ. You'll have the ability to fine tune your missions to your requirements.

For larger areas including all targets, it's a simple process of creating a target "box" (group of hexes) for each air HQ. Then have the target priority list include all of the targets you'd like to hit. The computer will assign the missions. Or, you can set an automatic list of directives for air groups in the northern portion of the map and/or the Med. There is remarkable flexibility in every part of WITW.

I'm not able to answer the East Front questions yet, but I hope the air information will help.
