Axis routing.

Post by marion61 »

This is a server game with QBall. I'm not sure if this is the same bug where the units rout out of Reggio and back to axis lines, but I attacked the HG Pz Div, and a Mech. Brigade in that mountain hex, and I checked before my attack that the hex was isolated. I had isolated them last turn. As you can see, they ran thru the allied lines, probably with all their tanks, so I have to kill them later at their same morale ratings.

I've downloaded the save and was able to duplicate this. Hopefully Gary will be able to figure out why they aren't surrendering.

I found out why they routed. As of the last German turn, they were not isolated, because they could trace to Catania via Reggio and the ferry to Sicily. Although you isolated the hex during your air phase, the units themselves are not considered isolated until they are isolated through a friendly turn. I realize that the show isolated will show them in red as the hex has been cut off, so this is misleading. I think we either need to not show the units in red as isolated unless they have met the condition of being isolated through a friendly turn or we shouldn't show the red border for enemy units. The key to know as a player is whether an enemy unit is starting your turn isolated, or if it is only isolated after your air phase. If the former, the unit will surrender, if the latter, the unit is eligible to rout move. Remember the basic rule is you have to cut a unit off during your turn, and then kill it on your next turn (assuming you keep it cut off).

I guess I need to watch that. I thought since I had the ports locked down with naval they couldn't get out, and Reggio was heavily damaged. I guess I need the rules better with my glasses on! Thank you for checking that, I feel better actually knowing it was my screw up and not the games.
