email games

I am very pleased to have found this site, after years of playing email Allied General games with a friend, we had all but given up on finding new games.
Trips down to the mall gave me the ipression that all war games had gone to the multi-player on-line routine.

From what I have read, War in the Pacific is not released yet, but models after UV. Since I have never played either, I guess at this point I might as well wait for WIP since UV is out of stock anyway, or is the wait six months away?

For those of you that played UV using the email games, how did the game perform, well?

From looking at the screen shots it is hard to tell how the fleets are displayed, as a single symbol, or as actual ships. The screen shots that I have found show a lot of maps, but don't seem to show any land or navy units.

UV PBEM is fantastic! Also its now available at some stores like EB and Compusa. Check out Matrix's store locater on its homepage. You can find more detailed screenshots on the dedicated UV site

WitP may not be out for another year so you may want to consider buying UV.

You will want to buy UV. First, it will be a long time before WITP comes out and you will miss many many hours of excellent gaming time if you wait. Second, UV is an outstanding game all on its own and you can use it a learning tool to get ready for WITP, which is much bigger in scope. If you read the boards, you will find that most UV players have several e-mail games going at onetime because one is not enough.

I second...or third.. that opinion. UV is a great stand alone game, and in my opinion it is at it's best when playing PBEM.

War in the Pacific is more like about 11 months away (Dec 2003 in my humble opinion).

Think of Uncommon Valor as WitP's tutorial... a tune-up... almost a pre-requisite for WitP.

Master UV, and you'll be that much ahead of getting a handle on the monster game that WitP will be.
