Won't load

I am sure this has been addressed before, and I'll probably get the terminology wrong:

I have the steam install on a Windows Vista machine. It played previously until the most recent update when I ran into a problem with Bit Defender. I fixed the issue by excluding distant worlds from scans. It ran again until, of all things, I installed Pandora (the game). Or anyway it seems this is the break point.

Now when I run Distant Worlds executable I get the loading box, which seems to run through its normal progression (displaying the final message "feeding giant keltors" but then the game crashes. I do not get the movie nor the menu. The distant worlds process disappears. Not sure what the problem is.

My Virus Checker often has issues with Steam-Stuff, too. I tend to ignore and check quarantine if any game-file is in there (if yes I just restore).

Maybe your BitDefender has something still in there.

Anohter thing to try is to let steam check your game install if everything is all right. Should leave out your mods folder and your saves of course. But since I'm not 100% sure about the mod folder better make a copy of it.

I hope something works for you.

BTW: when I start DW:U via steam I get a launcher from which I can start the game. maybe try the launcher.

You could try to run through the directx, .net and xna stuff in the _CommonRedist folder. Just in case installing the other game messed up some shared stuff somehow.
