Mission Kali Andhi (French carrier strike in Pakistan)

The 5th of January 2015...

That day will remain in all memories for long, for 200 years at least, as the day everything changed, for the worse.

As Parisian were recovering from their New Year celebrations and were getting back to their Metro-Boulot-Dodo (Subway-Work-Sleep) routine, crammed like sardines in the two most crowded subway stations, at 07:15 AM it happened.

The media immediately urged the President of the Republic to retaliate, offering a bewildering variety of speculative targets

Fortunately, after three weeks of hard work, the mastermind was finally found. Unfortunately, he was found within the borders of Pakistan.

Despite this worrying information, France still had to act. The media was baying for blood, and the government had to deliver.

As usual, the first question was "How close is our carrier?".

While it's set to 2015, this scenario is based on "A.M.N." (Apte à la Mission Nucléaire) by Jean-Yves Brouard & Francis Nicole published in 2006 (ISBN: 2-9515843-8-5).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kali Andhi (Hindi: काली आँधी, Urdu: کالی آندھی, literal meaning: Black Storm) are violent dust squalls that occur in the late-spring in the northwestern parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plain region of the Indian Subcontinent. They are usually brief, but can block out the sun, drastically reduce visibility and cause property damage and injuries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali_Andhi

Scenario Designer's notes

- for a better experience, I recommend that you turn off the "Scenario Events" notifications (Game Options -> Message log menu).
- however, make sure you have the "Special Messages" turned on as this will provide you a crucial directive.

- Side: France
- AUCount: 276
- Duration: 6 hours
- Platforms: Aircraft, Ships, Sub.
- Replayability: Key events have a probability to happen, or not, each game can be different.

This is my very first scen so any comment, critic, remark, observation is welcome, even more if it's detailed.

May you find it as entertaining to play than it was for me to create.

I gave it it a try. The idea is very interesting.
The enemy fort is very far, so I need to refuel 2 times, correct? I missed some calculations and I had to come back, but maybe more Stratotanker are needed.
I would add more aggressive surface units and maybe sub, to make it more difficult and interesting.
Maybe you can remove some civilian traffic to unclutter the game.

Thanks

Thanks a lot for your input giantsquid, a revised version of this scenario will be posted soon ™ with two variants.
This one will be "Case White" as it is the most "peaceful" option, "Case Blue" will experiment such an operation without an Aircraft Carrier (thus Blue for Sky Blue, referring to the Armée de l'Air) and "Case Red" with an Air Group on steroid for an Alpha Strike on an highly defended target, potentially the most bloody option.
It would probably be an insult to your intelligence to tell you what these three colors are referring to. ;)

You are welcome! you have built a very credible setting. A lt of work
Nice idea for the different cases, but probably it needs to be longer, not just 6 hours.
I would love a scenario with only carrier based Rafale and some AWACS & Tankers help.

I remember an old good strategic game, Flight commander 2, who had a campaign with rafale in Pakistan. Some of the missione were very interesting. There were attacks on terrorists camps and even intercept of escorted planes with VIP and maritime strike on rogue pakistani ships. This could be a good addition.

I liked the concept quite a bit, I liked how that after I decided to fire the conventional weapons since I didn't receive orders for a nuke launch the otherside sortied some very old aircraft and caused some serious problems. I should have sent the e-3 back as soon as I knew I was going to launch since it has plenty of aew range and didn't need to be in the northern most sector till the end, I also didn't launch with the buddystore planes until they were on their way back next time I run this I will use the buddy stores to get there and the tanker to get back. I think the perfect answer would be to use the tanker to get there and time the buddy stores to arrive for fueling right before the second bingo.

That is ultimately how I think of the mission, we have two bingos to deal with, one to get the planes up and one to get them back. I didn't get the launch planes up to the northern sector until about 90 mins before the end of mission because I couldn't do the math to figure out when I needed to get to the north so I might have missed the messages that way

though I still did manage to get a triumph but I dont think of it like that since a jet from the 1950s shot down an e-3 which has to be one of the most shameful military losses ever. I didn't even see the asw missiles until it was far to late.

the only thing I might do differently is to make it very clear when to launch the planes and if they should just immediatly head to the northern sector I suppose I lollygagged too much to trigger the messages.
