Riddle me this

Post by spence »

I have two fighter squadrons at Palmyra Is: a USN F2A3 squadron and an F4F3 squadron. The F2As can fly all the way to Pearl Harbor on a transfer mission. The only base reachable (on the transfer screen) by the F4F3's is Christmas Island.

Lots of supply. Both have a range of 7. Neither need using drop tanks. Huh?

Are the F4's restricted?

Are you asking a game question, or a "why was it designed this way" question?

If it's a game question, the answer is simple. The F4F3 only has an effective transfer range of 15 hexes, whereas the F2A3 can transfer to 31 hexes. If it's a "why" question, the effective range thing has been debated in threads that are years old now.

Edit: The F4F3A can transfer 15 hexes. The F4F3 can transfer 18 hexes, but still.
