A Global FUBAR

Post by AllenK »

Okay, having developed a whole range of MWIF mismanagement skills in the first game, I thought it time to augment the CV by adding oil to the list of behavioural incompetency's.

Global War scenario, options as below.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that Italian scrapping leave them short a transport at setup?

Well, that explains the "Transport unavailable message"! I've gone back and re-done the scrapping.

With only one US entry chit in the European pool USSR may be forced to stay passive in Europe.

Yep. I think I got a similar message over some rubbish Soviet plane I decided to dispense with the services of. I'll go back and look. Not for the plane but the pilot it comes with.

Hmmm. Well I suppose there's a lesson in there. This is what happens when you play on the fly and don't sit down and plan what you are doing.

The decision was partly influenced by the low draw for the Japanese chit. With oil in play I wanted to get to the embargo actions and cut off the trade asap. I hadn't thought through to the potential European consequences. I'll live with it. Looks like there won't be any first turn Soviet invasions of Persia or Romania or Finland. The flip side is probably a stronger garrison to face the Wermacht when that showdown comes and if it can help delay the launch of Barbarrosa so much the better. On the other hand, perhaps an early DoW against the Japs to mess their Pacific plans up.

You sure do like to scrap lots of units. [:)]

I thought that the pilot, in this case, would be placed in the reserve pool. But with that said I have no idea what the rules have to say about it.

Yes, I didn't want to end up building them. There's enough low grade stuff, particularly CW CVP's, as it is. I probably should have kept at least one of the 3-3 Trans on the basis that if I drew it on set-up it would be the prime swap for the Queens. Of course, if it didn't come up I'd be cursing at it lurking in the build pool just waiting to snap up BP's I would prefer went on a better one.

Regarding the pilot going to the reserve pool instead, I have no idea but at least this way made sure.

You can scrap units during every build step so there is no need to have units you do not want lurking in the force pool.

I've just tried re-running USSR set-up both ways. It didn't affect the number of pilots but there was only one Ftr to choose, instead of two, in the 'Anywhere' placement section.

Ah yes, of course. Thanks for reminding me. I guess this initial scrapping is about removing units you don't want appearing in your initial set-up tray.

I think this game is rapidly assuming the mantle of it's title. I've just re-looked at my Italian set-up. I was that focused on what I was going to do with the Italians and where I wanted them positioned, I completely left the French border unguarded [&:]. Back to the drawing board.

Scrapped Italian units.
