hexside has got me blue

Post by obvert »

This is a path I've been using frequently from 76, 46 to 76, 47.

The IJ took the 76, 47 hex but I moved back in opening the hex sides on both the NE and SW side of the hex, which he then recaptured completely, owning all hex sides. Then I moved through again before he could move into 76, 46 with his units ( I already had a unit started which only required one day to move and he did not/could not have had the same as he had just taken the hex the day before). So I should own that hex side again but instead it's blue and I at least can't use it at all.

So the order is as follows:

1. He took the hex.
2. My units moved in one day later from both sides on the road as they had already started and thus got hex side control again along the road.
3. He took the hex again.
4. I had another unit moving (from 76, 46, so through the blue line area) which did move and should have gained the hex side control again. Instead the blue line appeared. Units moving from the other side got hex side control a day later (as shown in the map with green on both sides).
5. I tried to move another unit through literally the next turn, but it would not go that way, and instead rerouted to an adjacent hex if sent. That's when I checked with the 'W' key and saw this blue line.

A save follows.

Erik's right. Got the very same issue. I didn't notice it untill Erik made me because when i tried to move NW from 76-47 after having conquered the hex he precedeed me entering into the 76-47 hex from NW. After that i didn't tried anymore to move NW cause i knew the hexside was "blocked" for me.
But now, when i press "W" key, it appears the blue line just like in Erik's screeshot.
Tried to restart the pc but it didn't change
Tried also to download again the DBB extended map files, but things don't change...it doesn't seem to be related with the pwhex/pwzlink/pw etc files...seems to be something connected with the .exe but don't understand how the "map" can be changed by the .exe...[&:]

Blue with the 'W' key means both sides 'own' the hexside. Hex (and hexside) control are dynamic and not controlled by a file.
From the code, if the hexside is impassable, it also uses a 3 (owned by both). The hexsides are already set to a 3 - this is a array that get restored from save so I can't tell when it got that way.
Hex control should be calculated each turn so I would have expected this to have reset itself on next turn. I'll play around some with it.
--
The units around this hex seem to be misbehaving. Don't seem to want to me where they should.
I can't get the hexside control to become the value it is showing. It is only set to this value if the hexside is considered 'blocked' which it is not - the data in the saved file is correct, but at some point it must have been incorrect and carried the error forward.

Do you have the save from turn before??

If only one side is in a hex, the hexside control gets cleared if not truly blocked by terrain. So eventually the 'error' will correct itself once only one side in the hex.
When both sides present, the control retains the original value - normally who last past thru the hex.
I can reset the hexside if you give me a current in-game save?

Thanks Michael!

Nick is away for a day and will send a turn again tonight (GMT) at which time I could send it to you to be reset.

Here is one previous save. I'll post another after this one.

Yes, it has the incorrect setting in the earlier saves. So I can't tell when it went bad.

Michael, further to Moose's question in the main forum, does the Blue (when not induced by terrain, but rather in the situation described in this thread) prevent both sides from moving across the hex side or allow both sides to move across the hex side?

I can send earlier ones if you want to find it. Seems like no one has seen this before, so it can't be WAD can it? The blue seems to usually appear across water to indicate no movement is allowed.

Stops both actually. I think the comment in code about 'owned' by both is an error. It make it blue if the hexside is ocean, blocked or reef(?).

At the moment, I can't trawl through a lot of saves and not even sure if I find it, I'll find the error cause. I plan to make a code change that will reset the 'blue' line if it doesn't match the actual terrain hexside.

Great, and thanks for the quick responses. I'll have a current turn save shortly to send. Nick says he'll be back to me within and hour or two.

This is what I see. The only blue I see on the map, either in hexside ownership mode (the 'W' key) or terrain detail mode (the F6 key), is for a water-bordered hex. Islands I hold have an 'A' for Allied control of the hex, and six blue hexsides. Any Allied or Japanese ship can cross any side. No LCU of either side can cross. No swimming in the game. A ship crossing a blue hexside does not change its color. Very logical. I see no blue hexsides inland.

Here is the recent turn save. I've done my stuff and instead of ending left it for you to change the blue line.

Thanks Michael! [&o]

Just opened it up and noticed that the blue line is still there for me. I tried movement and came up with this note. Will it only take effect after running through a new turn?

Let me check it.
Did you get the error saying it was saved under 11.25??

Did the description for the game when in the load list have 'fixed' at the end?
