North Korean Tactics (ground)

Post by Dobey455 »

Hi All,

While doing some research for a scenario I am thinking about putting together I stumbled on this paper written by a US Army Major who had recently attended the ROK staff college and found that most US material was not really up to par with current North Korean army tactics.

I think many in this community would find it interesting - as I did.

Zipped PDF attached

EDIT - Apologies the paper is from 2001 - 2002, so not entirely recent, but probably still relevant based on my assumption that NK has not massively changed their thinking in the last 10 - 15 years.

2001 is pretty recent...oh wait, that's 14 years ago. Holy Crap am I old. I think I'll just go sit down and weep a little.

You're right. It's getting a little old now. (Like thewood1 I thought "2001, yeah that's not too old....")

Having said that I'd wager that NK thinking hasn't changed much.

To be honest I started reading this thinking it would essentially be "See soviet tactic manual for 1960".
The biggest surprise for me was that NK actually seems to have made some effort at creativity and modifying soviet tactics to fit their terrain and sociology.

One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
