HQ morale level

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

HQ morale level

Post by GamesaurusRex »

The morale of units directly affects unit CV (and combat results?).

How does the individual HQ morale level figure into the game ? The morale is shown, but what does it do ?
Does it affect combat results ?... SU commitment ?... irrelevent ?... What exactly ?

Views ?

Now... Now...
Just because I isolated 4 of your Russian Guards Cav Corps, 2 Guards Mech Corps, 4 Rifle Corps, 1 Mech Corps, 1 Tank Corps, and 7 assorted Artillery/rocket Divs, with HQs and who knows what else in a sweeping Operation Frühlingserwachen around lake Balaton on the latest turn (185 - 12/28/44)...

is no reason to get snippy on the forum...

Look at the support troops. Should be the only fighting troops in a HQ.
I don't know an answer, but I think it has no effect to the HQ.

I only know of one affect. The morale of the HQ affects the MP cost for entering enemy controlled hexes. With 50 MP available, there's almost always enough MPs but if you make a big enough breakthrough, some HQs with low morale might not be able to keep up with the combat units.

I think morale of HQ units matters a little, only when resolving effects against the support elements in the unit (fatigue etc).

edit: +1 for what olorin said. Basically, morale is local to the HQ unit itself. Has no effect on subordinates. What matters for them is the leader and his skills.

@olorin, morvael, KUDOS for answer to G'rex's question in re an obscure feature.

And to Wheat for most concise, cogent comment today.

Thanks to all for the explanations. The reason for the question is that I am in the very "end game" of a CG with Wheat and in order to supplement declining German manpower I am selectively disbanding unnecessary units. The question then occurred as to how important the HQs morale levels are when choosing who to disband. So apparently not very.

Thanks again all.

Understand disbanding to release forces & equipment for one's purposes. Do same but at earliest opportunity, e.g., unneeded LW air bases, LW HQs, and army ABs.

Not sure what this gets, though. Assume troops & equipment go to pools. Never have checked.

Are there other opportunities?

Lw does not have extra airbases to disband , the romanians have.

I disband two airfleets - the 4th ( 6th comes as replacement) and LF Reich.
4 aircorps is enough for me, the rest can go after 42.

The army airbases remain on reduced toe, but the tank army airbase are disbanded.

Thanks your response; I'll look at your suggested approach for die Luftflotten, etc.. Believe the army bases (w/any toe) provide transfer points for LW action & recon craft (very good.) Why delete PzA air bases?

Other posts have suggested placing FLAK in LW and that seems good.

Thanks all for sharpening my play.

Ooopsy, this thread has gone off topic. sorry.

I'll start new thread.
