CW CPs Forced to Transport Traded Oil to Japan

Post by rkr1958 »

The situation: Jan/Feb 1940. The Netherlands were conquered by Germany last turn (Nov/Dec 1939). NEI aligned with the CW and its new home country is in England (CW). There are three allied resources that I'm trying to convoy through the South China Sea. Two are NEI oil resources for the CEW headed to London and Calcutta. The third, which isn't currently being transported to my frustration, is a non-oil French resource from Hanoi to metropolitan France. By the way, Japan is only at war with China. Now to my questions / tech issues:

1. I assume that since the CW and Japan aren't at war the Dutch NEI still must provide two oil points to Japan via trade?

2. I assume that since the NEI is a partially conquered and aligned country to the CEW that's why the two mandatory traded oil points from the Dutch East Indies to Japan shows up under CW resources transported through the South China Sea?

3. I don't want to use CW controlled CPs to help transport these two traded oil points to Japan. Do I have to? If not, how do I force the program to stop using CW CPs and start using Japanese CPs?

It all sounds right except Japan should provide the CPs.

From the rules: "Where possible, these resources (or build points) are transported by rail (see 13.6.1). If this isn't possible, the recipient must provide the convoys required to receive them (exception: the joint Japan-USA convoy, see above)."

Are there JP CPs in the South China Sea? (Sorry no time yet today to check out the save.)

Japan has 5 CPs in the South China Sea. Interestingly under their (i.e., Japan's) production screen it shows that 2 of their 5 CPs there are being used to transport the two oil through the South China Sea. Either I'm really confused, which is probably the case, or the program is using or wants to use two CPs from both the CW and the Japanese to transport these two oil points.

It looks OK to me. The program is using 2 Japanese CP to transport the NEI to Japan and 2 CP from the CW to transport the oil to the CW. The -2 is a cosmetic bug. If you check CW production, everything should be OK.

Once you own the NEI you can store your 2 oil there even, and save the CPs for other things. But watch out for partisans.

rkr1958, you may be reaching a point with your expanding knowledge of the game where you have to manage a lot of the CW resources yourself, rather than letting the program do it.

Yea ... it looks like everything turned out ok. When it was the Japanese turn, I did re-select where the oil went to. Now I'm not sure if that "released" the two allied CPs in the South China Sea or if the program would have done it itself anyway. But either way, the convoys are running the way I want them to (for now that is [;)] ).

I have a confession to make. Managing production and the convoy routes is turning out to be one of my favorite parts of the game ... most of the time that is. If you look through my production screens you'll see that I am setting the destinations for all resources for all countries myself. That usually (produces) the routes the way I intended to set them up. Now, the other 5% of the time is when the "program" chooses to route the resource through an "additional" sea area when it's not necessary or a different way entirely (e.g., through the Med instead of around the horn of Africa). I then have to go in and manually set the route between the resource and destination the way I want it to go. The only frustration is when I don't notice this (i.e., the program has modified my intended route and included an additional sea area or gone a different way) before I get a chance to fix it before the turn ends.
