disappearing base units

Post by jjby »

I am playing the long campaign. I have just taken Wewak as the Allies. I have landed a force including a base force. The base force disappeared. I sent a second and a third to Wewak. Each time the base force would arrive at Wewak is would disappear from Wewak and reappear the following day at Brisbane. Is anyone else having a similar problem? I may have to transfer all aircraft off of Wewak if I cannot maintain a base force there. I posted this thread in the normal UCV thread section and recieved a few comments from other gamers experiencing the same problem. I save the game when this occured. How do I zip the saved file to post it here?
I also recieved a comment from another gamer about a similar issue as follows: "another thing, I have also noticed upon taking Rabual, Wewak, or Kavieng.. my TF's have a VERY annoying tendancy to AUTOMATICALLY reset their home ports to Truk! This makes visually checking every TF's route every turn.. sucks when your AP TF just floats right on in to truk harbor and you didnt catch it in time! DOH!"

Are these issues that can be addressed or should I evacuate Wewak?

This has happened to me also, but I wasn't sending the partial base unit to Wewak.

jjby,

you need to download and install winzip (which is free, just do a term search for it on Yahoo) and follow the instructions to zip a file, then attach it with your post.

I empathize with your problem. UV has been beset from the beginning with bugs like this that crop up when you capture one of the enemy's "home" bases (the ones where new units enter the game, those being Wewak, Truk, Brisbane, and Noumea). One of the more amusing problems was that your conquering ships, after triumphantly entering harbor, would be formed into TFs by the computer and sent to the enemy home base! This one has been fixed, but a glance around these forums reveals that there are others that have not (including this one, which others have reported as the "teleporting base force" bug).

I think that the problem has its origins in the designers' idea that this game would be so evenly balanced that neither side would be able to penetrate so far as to capture these four pivotal locations. Leave it to us dumb players to reiterate by example the wisdom of the saying, "The plans of mice and men oft gang agley."
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

Here is the .zip file of the lost of my base units. I was trying to transport a base unit to Wewak. Once the unit arrives, the unit disappears and reappears at Brisbane where it originated from.
