Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
OK,
After months in the oven - this one is finally ready to go - I think.
NATO player only, 1994 hypothetical WW3 scenario, follow on to the other Northern Fury scenarios.
WP takes on Iceland, NATO is still reeling on its heels but the teeth are starting to come out. I've tried to show how I think the Soviets could have (if they ever wanted to) take Iceland. You will be pushed off the island but can still win the fight, it won't be easy.
As always, I'm very interested in your comments or critiques. Quite a few moving parts in here so it’s quite likely there will be a few issues.
Enjoy
Changes for Ver 2.4 (29 Apr 15)
1. NATO briefing updated
2. SH-60 on Vella Gulf readied
3. New evacuation destination in Greenland to accommodate the short range evacuation flights
4. Evacuation event now only fires once but gives a whopping 100 pts
5. Soviet positions adjusted a bit
6. Settings on Soviet A2A sweep adjusted, this combined with the new positions should make the air fight a bit tougher
7. Sov TGs now have a CAP
8. Another surprise added - only for the cocky player though
9. Updated to lated DB
Final version (31 May 15) uploaded. Minor changes.

Nice and good mechanism scenario. It focused AAW Battlefield. Thanks to make it, I hope to see next scenario [:'(]
One question : Scenario Time is 1994, Why USAF F-15C fighters are 1984 yrs model?

Thanks
Used the 84 version of the F-15 primarily for game balance. The 92 version is AMRAAM capable and wanted to show the difference with the 2 upgraded versions arriving early in the scenario. Not sure how long the upgrade program lasted but assumed that it would take 2-3 years to upgrade the entire fleet, so it was plausible that the 57th FS would be in the midst of changing during Feb 94. Also the 87 version have the APG-70 radar and there were only 43 of them built prior to the MSIP upgrade, so I figured that these would be employed in the front line wings in either Japan or Germany.
The 84 version makes a nice match for the Su-33, in my trials the kill ratio varied from a low of about 1.5:1 up to a max of 2.5:1, something most players using F-15s would be surprised with.
The next scenario is running simultaneous to this one and features the Brits defending the southern end of the GIUK gap, won't make any promises but its close... [X(] I hope.
Enjoy

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
I will read the brief over again… It was very late when I read it… But I don't think you really definitively state what the mission is..... I am assuming it is to hold.... aiding the evacuation..... And then die.....
RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
Magi
Your right, I don't think I stated it in the brief. You receive further orders later in the scenario which are quite clear (~1600Z I think). Until then routine operations which you sum up quite well [;)].
Let me know if you think it should be more clear in the brief once things start happening.

okidokie..... will carry on... will "get a grip".....
RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
I'm a few hours into it… But this thing is so well done it almost breaths… The only nitpick I have so far… Is that if this is day two in World War III…it would seem that the H is cruisers Seahawk would be armed or at least having the loadout ready…
RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
Well spotted. That was a late addition to facilitate a few things later in the scenario, must have been late and I missed it. Will fix.

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
Well I am 25 hours game time into this and have achieved TRIUMPH..... The key was having AEW coverage and CAPs in the north and northeast... Allowing me to destroy most of their long-range shooters before they launched with my F-15s.....
However… In the north the fact that the SU 33's would come in screaming in on afterburn for 200+ nautical miles disadvantaged them to the extreme… as they didnt have enough time in the operation area to provide protection for Red bomber/striker force.... They would launch their long-range air to air missiles at maximum range where I could out run them and then they would be bingo and Winchester and have to RTB.... If their patrol area had been 100 nautical miles to the south… I would've been screwed and it would have been very depressing.... As it is I destroyed almost all of their bombers and three SU 33s with no loss of my force.....
I did not group any of the F-15 flights… That allowed me to micromanage them individually… Also six or seven of my F-15 pilots made Ace… often they would use all their missiles and then go in and gun the rest down… cool... And it was fun to upgrade them…

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
I do have one question… How come I cannot find the red guys that are attacking my facilities on the ground… I even cheated and had a couple Apache helicopters go looking for them… And I still cannot find them… I'm not used to doing the ground stuff… and where the hell did they come from… Are they one of those spawn LUA deals.......
RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
I was having some difficulties with them, some are there, the early ones (Not Grimbey) and the Spetz attacks on the Coms and radar facilities are there, as are the RHIBs but the mother ship is on a different side. Some of the later ones are not, the airport teleports away, a Red one teleports in and you get a message about it. Those events are largely there for colour and background. In reality, 10-12 guys in a few stolen vehicles could easily take one of these facilities which only have 'rent-a-cop' security (if any in 94) and also easily hide from the Cavalry that comes to get them. I could teleport more troops in later in the game but did not think it was needed.
Question on your earlier post. Did the scenario 'time out' or did it end by event? Did the Airborne operation come in, I was having issues with that as well.
Well done BTW. Pondering if it is the patrol area or the position of the Carrier which is too far away. Did the radars get knocked out at least?
Am running the next one on internal testing at the moment, hope to have it out by the weekend barring any major issues.

Oh and some of the bad guys are 'non-detectable' recon just for targeting.

OK, your still quite early but doing well. I see you sank the Trawler from the side 'Suspect' How did you do that? with the other CG cutter? If you killed it in time you probably saved Akureyri. There are a few more surprises in store for you.

RE: Scenario for Testing - Northern Fury 6 Keflavick Capers
cool.... this is a truly fine scenario....
i had the cutter run for it.... i may save it too.... i sank the trawler with my f15s... after they shot their missiles off.... i had them go down and hoes the trawler down.. it took 4 or 5 of them to get it on fire and badly damaged... then i left it... it was at a crawl and finally sank....

Gunner98, I'm still working my way through H-Hour (I've got to balance a wife, three kids, and a job), but I certainly plan to play all your scenarios in order. Please keep building them!
