Am I missing something or is there another way to create more than one fleet?

It's been a bit since I've played lately, but you can designate each ship in a numbered fleet by hitting a button on the menu at top when the ship is selected. If you click on the fleet number it will change from 1 to 2 to 3... etc. Hmmm.... can't remember the name of it. For some reason, I have the buttons down by their location and not as much by their symbol or name. I must be loopy.
