Odd invasion result -- succeeded but routed?

Post by Belphegor »

Could you have a look at the server game vs Meklore?

I invaded Taranto with two prepped divs plus 2 engineer units. Apparently successfully. However, on Meklore's turn all he had to do was move a rgt next to taranto and my two divs routed out.

Because I can't see combat on invasions I have no idea why that happened. How did my units successfully invade and be in a routed state?

If it's a bug, please reset the turn back to Allied (if possible) last turn
If not a bug, I'll have to hurt Meklore for this outrage. [:'(]

When I load the save from the start of the German turn, I see two Allied units each about about 20% of TOE. In order for them to rout away they would have to be below 10% TOE. In the air phase, Meklore bombed the units and caused another 1500 or so in casualties. It's quite possible that he damaged enough elements to drop the units below 10%, which would allow him to rout them by moving next to them. So I don't think it's a bug. Now the question is why did these units get torched during the landing. I see Taranto had a level 4 fort, so it's possible that this combined with the low prep value shot up the units coming ashore.

That was my reasoning. First they took invasion attrition. Then they assaulted a lvl 4 fortress, with mech units close enough to activate from reserve (not sure that happened), and then I did a zero hex bomb run on the survivors. I bet it never happens again in a 1000 games, but I'm glad it did! Taranto is MINE! With a mountain regiment. You'd only been fooling around with Italians, now it's time to fight German's!!! [;)]

Thanks for looking. I hadn't considered 50 low prep for the site and expected opposition; but in retrospect I guess it is.

the rest well... heck! 2 crack British Divs all iskabibbled.

One final question if you have time.

Routing is calculated on % total TOE or % TOE undamaged. I'm guessing the latter, as my divs still have quite high TOE this turn (unless they got a LOT of replacements)

It's % undamaged that counts for being depleted. Once you hit 10% undamaged or lower, you will rout away when tagged. I think in the replacement phase those units were refitted, but I can say they looked bad when they had hit the beach (20% undamaged or less before the bombing).
