Notification of why victory was achieved.

Post by Ironclad »

For the next patch, could we please have an on-screen notification of the reason for a victory being awarded in pbem or add the reason on the multiplayer screen. Currently we get the email notification of the game over and confirmation on the multiplayer screen of a win but no reason eg player resignation. Clicking on the game allows one to see what happened last turn but there is no on screen notification of the reason or indeed that the game is over (unless its listed at the bottom of that turn's results - I haven't double checked there). Indeed to stop myself continuing an already finished game I have to use Task Manager to leave the Program.

It would be nice to have some chrome eg congratulations, large victory flag (like I think we had in FOF) and the history graph buttons up for examination (even if the casualty one still doesn't work for me!). It would also be useful if one's opponent could be listed here or on the multiplayer screen for future reference - at present it only shows when his turn is active.

Hi Ironclad,

I'm not sure I completely follow. Right now when you win, it tells you the quality of the victory and all the stats for each side and it also lets each player pass the victory state back and forth so everyone can get a good look.

Are you requesting just that a resignation victory vs. a normal victory be reported differently or something else?

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks Erik. I don't get any of that in pbem (don't recall it in AI games but I probably never finished a winning position there). When I click on the game in multiplayer when it tells me that I've won, the screen plays out the other side's turn and then nothing it just waits. Just checked with one and after playing out its turn and the turn report its still on the other sides turn - so it doesn't let me play on with my side as I thought. But no victory announcement or anything, and since there is no "finish" button I'm left to use Windows Task Manager to leave the program. Thats using 1.04b.

Could it be because all these victories have been player resignations (which is what I wanted confirmed) - if so it needs adjusting so the victory info appears for resignations too.

The victory notice (Flag & Music) may have been seen by your opponent. I guess it rubs salt into the wound but the winner doesn't get the reward.

If that is the case then I hope something can be done. In other games I have played that have used the server, its normal even when the win occurs on the opponent's turn to get to see the end screen and stats when one clicks on that game in multiplayer.

You can always see the victory screen -- you just have to open the graphs display, it's one of those.

Do you mean the score button? Will it let me in since its still on the other side's turn when I access a finished won game?

Btw re the buttons - using 1.05 I still can't get the casualty graph button to work. The score one is a bit awkward but with perseverance and using right or left clicks on different parts of it I can get it to work. I'm using 1366 resolution so I suppose its an outstanding issue from that.

Edit: Forget above I see there is a victory button which appeared with a USA victory flag indicating my defeat. Pressing the buttons still didn't tell me how I had lost - it was morale but the morale graph didn't show that as the combat showing at the start had changed that - so I had to check the battle screen to identify this.

I was asked to end the battle normally - but as the game button only showed one option (resume) I pressed end turn. Clearly the wrong thing as the game is still showing as active for my victorious opponent (Doombat2000). Can this be corrected please - its turn 21 on the Wilson Creek standard scenario.

Would be helpful if that finish procedure could be made clearer.

I assume the number of stars on the victory screen denote the number of points or magnitude of the victory overal?

In the victory state you can see all the units on both sides and can activate the graphs that show the score screen. Your opponent may have to enter the game and end his turn in order to pass the game over to you so that you can look at the victory -- I'm not sure there is a way to put the game in a state on the server such that any player can look at the game.

The number of stars represents the ratio of the winner's score to the total score out of five stars.
