A few suggestions

Post by Deathtreader »

Hi,

1/ Would be nice if the other overlays (such as firepower, command radius etc.)had the same shift-click on multiple locations functionality as the LOS overlay. Would help in planning to not only see the LOS from a possible new location but also firepower ranges etc. from a possible new location as well.

2/ A National characteristics tab in game. So far it appears that I have to open something else outside the game itself to access this info.

3/ A quantifiable command size limit for intermediate and lower level HQ's so that players have some readily identifiable indication that this particular HQ can only handle so many subordinates before it goes into overload.

This is a great game!! More please[&o]

Thanks for the inputs. For #1 we plan on adding more quick buttons and some new overlay types in Southern Storm. A number of those will support terrain clicking to see from the map and also add in better colors and info too. #2 is a great point. To be honest, I don't think we thought about that. We'll get that on the list. #3 I am not sure I understand. HQs gain radio traffic based on the number of orders given and also take a readiness hit. What number are you looking for?

Thanks.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Hi,

For point number 3 I'll use an example:

The high HQ includes 6 command section sub-units. There are 3 directly subordinate low level HQ's each with only 1 command section sub-unit. If I directly re-subordinate ALL the units in the game to any 1 of those low level sub-HQ's with their single command section I'm sure it would be overwhelmed & my command delay would soar. So maybe a pop-up saying any given HQ has reached it's threshold would be helpful. Some thing like the pop-up when you try to over stack in a hex.
An extreme example I know.

Here's another suggestion:

How about 2 new display options, 1 to display only the player units WITH orders, and another that displays only those player units that are currently WITHOUT player issued orders. Would sure help to quickly sort out what units need new orders in the larger scenarios.

With the plans we have for command and control in Southern Storm, we should be able to display some form of HQ friction as it changes during a scenario.

As for an orders overlay, your units always have an order so there is no way to differentiate or know what a player wants to move or alter order's wise. You can activate movement paths now and see who is moving and that may help show you units you planned to move. Also, thinking out loud, we could look at a filtering unit hide were you could hide units based on orders type.
