Guess he had his head in a bell for some time... what I heard he wasn´t the best commander and a bit mad Brave but not effective to take measures to preserve his troops vs. the later union offensives.

edit: I don't happen to know which Admiral Hood the ship was named for, nor the volcano in Oregon, if different.

Let´s be honest here, recovering a bell from the ocean floor, how much did that cost ? Could they not find a better use for the money. Eg. help the poor? Probably some publicity stunt by this guy... but if the veterans approve of it then ok.[8|]

Well, first time I learned about the real John Bell Hood, the man seemed indestructible. I just couldn't resist.

He was an insubordinate who blamed other commanders - I do not like this at least talk to them personally if you have issues....he wrote letters to Davis etc. and complained about them. Even if there more careful approach of the war would spare more lives then Hoods "bravery". [8|]
