John Bell Hood recovered? Shouldn't this ironclad be somewhere around Nashville?

John Bell Hood recovered?

Guess he had his head in a bell for some time... what I heard he wasn´t the best commander and a bit mad :) Brave but not effective to take measures to preserve his troops vs. the later union offensives.

I wasn't referring to His Maximum Stupidness John Bell (Ol' Wooden Head) Hood, rather His Majesty's Ship Hood.

edit: I don't happen to know which Admiral Hood the ship was named for, nor the volcano in Oregon, if different.

What´s up with you, drunk or mad ? [:D]

Let´s be honest here, recovering a bell from the ocean floor, how much did that cost ? Could they not find a better use for the money. Eg. help the poor? Probably some publicity stunt by this guy... but if the veterans approve of it then ok.[8|]

Well, first time I learned about the real John Bell Hood, the man seemed indestructible. I just couldn't resist.

But jokes aside, the whole affair is rather sad. So many people dead in a blink of an eye. Reminds me of SS John Burke

He seemed to get promoted every time he lost an appendage.

True, and he kept insisting on riding his horse, or trying.

He was an insubordinate who blamed other commanders - I do not like this at least talk to them personally if you have issues....he wrote letters to Davis etc. and complained about them. Even if there more careful approach of the war would spare more lives then Hoods "bravery". [8|]
