Playing Axis one finds different sorts of CBs at different times, e.g., Construction Bns, Road Construction Bns, O.T. Bns, R.A.D Bns, Construction Regiments, and maybe more.

Do these behave differently? Should one care, etc? Where should these be assigned for optimum outcomes?

BTW, have found Axis allies CBns assigned to German HQs in scenarios from, say, Lost Battles, but cannot make a game time assignment like that. What up?

Since I am very new to this, please take my advice with caution. As far as I know, you'll only want to turn your attention to the FDBs (of which there are 4 in the campaign at least). This is because you are able to control these in a direct manner. As for the other construction units, they do work automatically, but you could fine tune there area of application by manually assigning them to different HQs. I believe it is agreed upon by most, that this is close to absurd micro-management.

But since I still do have various problems with rail management, I'll welcome any valuable knowledge anyone has to share.

AFAIR all these CBs behave the same, they may have different strengths and construction values though.
Foreign support units attached to german HQs stay only for the first turn and are reassigned to their nation's HQ on the next turn. Assignement was historical but not permitted in WitE.
For the German offensive in 1941 you may want to lock support in OKH and send all contruction Bns to them - OKH has highest range to send them out for rail repair.

For the FBDs you need to study rail lines (to avoid the Baltic trap), know the ruiles and makes plans how to use them best.

I consider myself to be the person having made most if not all of the mistakes one can make concerning rail management, but what is "the baltic trap"?

@Denniss: "they may have different strengths and construction values though" is the question. May I assume any units "value" would be based upon headcount(organization name?) not equipment, training, etc? Still, "what's in a name" (Shakespeare) is always worth thinking through.

@Schnellerheinz: I believe that CBs at Corps level do not go on rail repair missions, but I assume they help the Corps divisions "dig in." And, yes, this game has an absurd amount of micro-management!

All CBs may be used to repair rail but Corps have a very short range for sending them out, they are usually far away from a working rail head.
RRV value should be based on available/ready labor squads minus fatigue. Don't know if experience/morale have a factor here.

Baltig trap is an area in the Baltic where a rail line does not go straight to a city from West but circles around and enters from south. Many players did not notice it until forward repair stops as their rail line isn't connected to the working rail grid.
