Morale and fatigue

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Morale and fatigue

Post by armonica »

Is there any way to assign air groups to ''rest'' automatically as soon as they hit a certain morale or fatigue
value, instead of picking them one by one in the Commander's Report?

No there isn't but you don't have to do them one by one either. If you look at the bottom of the Comd's Report you can set filters for specific levels of pct morale, exp or fatigue - then at the top you can bulk change the setting of the air group using the mission setting control.

It would be good if a setting was provided so that the user can have pilots automatically rest (and unrest) under certain conditions. A general setting for all pilots (and perhaps a separate one, if desired, for bomber pilots, escort pilots, FB pilots who are set to bomb, and recon pilots) combined with the ability to have individual group settings seems like a good idea. Also perhaps a button canceling rest for certain types of pilots for one turn only so that all those pilots get in their planes that week regardless of how much they need rest would also be good.

We've just added functionality to turn ADs on and off. Each Air HQ can have up to 20 ADs but is limited to only the normal limit being used. This allows you to set up a number of different ADs which you can switch with out the need to redo everything each time. It's not quite what you want but another helpful feature.

that sounds great! then I could mix and match the airgroups I want in each AD but not have to re-create the routes and targets each time. very cool

Hmm..I never thought of that....set up different targets and then just click. More useful for strat bombing then tactical stuff..but I suppose I could use it on rail yard targets.

On a related morale issue - I know if you set a unit to rest then it regains morale, but if you leave it set as normal (say DN) but give it no directive so that it doesn't fly (in effect resting) is there the same morale gain?

Rest stance gives bigger morale boost than being idle on standby.

Best new feature and one I didn't know I needed until I had it. Combine this with the extra air HQ's and the Allies can micro manage the air war with far less effort. For example, put some Wellingtons in a separate HQ and set to day and use them to target v-launch sites. Before if I set all low morale RAF bombers (using the filters) to rest and the next turn back to night I had to go through some extra effort to click the Wellingtons back to day. Now if I decide to switch Wellingtons to port siege efforts I set a new AD and deactivate the v-launch AD. Next turn a couple of clicks gets them back to their original mission without having to recreate the AD.

I've said it before, nobody supports games after launch like 2by3!

Where is this new functionality available? Is there a new beta, or is it going to come with Torch?

It's currently in testing - it will certainly be out with Torch but I don't think it's a feature specifically linked to Torch.

That's correct, will be out around Torch launch but will be available for all WitW players.
