Possible Allied attack on the Kuriles Jan 42

Post by thebluefox »

A quick advice request

In a PBEM with an opponent, im Japanese hes Allied - a sub or two and a very lucky AMC have picked up a lot of traffic heading west out of Seattle including a carrier or 2 and some APs - it could be nothing, but my spidey sense is telling me theres an attack on the Kuriles imminent

The KB is cruising around Fiji and is catching a lot of unescorted shipping down there - i dont think itll get north in time to help and im not sure it needs to with the target rich enviroment shes in

Should i be worried about an attack on the Kuriles? It could be a diversion, it could be a plan to hold the islands and attempt to bomb resource shipping around Toyohara

Do i put a division on the ground and attempt to hold the place, mine the harbours before his arrival or simply put as much LBA on the bases as possible?

or let him arrive and then bomb him at my pleaseure and soak up his supplies and not worry hes next door?

any advice greatfully received

FWIW - i dont think im worried hed be there, but im not sure [:(]

I have attacked home islands with bombardment TFs in 2 separate games in Jan & Feb '42. I was never spotted and never lost a ship. My advice therefore is don't worry about it!!!

I play Allies all the time so I am not sure what exactly the defenses available are at Paramushiro but the Allied Player has a few problems with a 1942 offensive into the Kuriles: he has no ships, planes, bases or significant troops to back up an invasion of the Kuriles.

IMHO he's likely to be a massacred if he tries.

You won't hold it... whatever you send there, assume it will be lost... rather quickly

so this can be costly in a time when, as Spence mention, the Allies has nothing.

A hit and run, specially if you bomb industry or aircraft factories, can be a little more rewarding.

Even if he manages to land somewhat safely you can just grab it back at leisure. Whatever troops he send there (if he is indeed) are already doomed.

If it was 44-45 = Big worry. In 42 = Enjoy the VPs he is giving you. [:)]

Much more likely to be an attempt to garrison the Aleutians.

You should pray he attacks there in '42. U wont even need KB to defeat the effort.

Yep, he would be foolish to try it. I invaded Port Blair with a crack Australian division and medium tank battalion in late 42-thinking it would be impossible for him to take it back. But whomever controls the seas and the sky controls everything. I wish I had not done it...[:@]
