Newbie question

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Newbie question

Post by smittyohio90 »

Going through the tutorial, and I'm struggling to understand how to read the armaments information on the subunit inspector.

Here's the Challenger 1 info on the main gun:

125mm L11A5: 29 AP, 42 HEAT, 6 Area, range 6000m. /52 ammo

What do the 29 and 42 designate?
What is 6 Area?
Is the 52 total ammo?

Thanks in advance!

You have 29 AP rounds and 42 HEAT rounds. Not sure on the others myself

nelmsm that is not right.

The 29 AP and the 42 HEAT are a numeric indication of the penetration potential of the round. To determine the degree of penetration multiply the number by 15. There fore the AP round can penetrate 435mm of steel where the HEAT round can penetrate 630mm of steel. The "6 Area" is similar and is a measure of the output of the small arms value of the weapon. The "52 total ammo" is the basic ammo load for that weapon.

I recommend you review "The Poor Man's Mod Guide 4" that discusses where these number come from. Also, section 6.6 of the User's Manual gives the definitions for the codes used in the subunit inspector.

The information in the SUI is a bit cramped and cryptic. We are planning to expand the SUI in Southern Storm and onward to include the information in real world terms and with more explanations of platform capabilities. This will better help new player and also be of more interest to the Grogs out there.

Feel free to ask any questions. That's why we are here.

Enjoy the game. [8D]
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!
