Game worth buying?

Post by bo »

It seems this game is nothing but trouble reading the forums here and on Slitherine, Ai slowness etc. Would anyone here recommend this game?

I like the game as a design.
I am frustrated by its limited support and speed issues.
That being said if they could overcome those two aspects I would recommend it.

The BoB release and coinciding patch have been having some issues, must of which installer related. This has been solved by now however, and we are releasing a small new patch next week to sort out the remaining game issues reported since the last patch.

The AI calculations can take some time on the larger scenarios. This is something we still hope to improve gradually, but it isn't going to happen overnight.

Thank you gentlemen for your answers, I know as a beta tester for World in Flames things do not always go well in programming games that are complex.

Absolutely understandable. A bit more responsiveness on the forums woukd go along way even if it were only " we are aware of problems x,y,z and they will be addressed in patch y." Like was finally done above.

Yes, it is worth buying. It could use two things, IMO:

1) Just a little more branching in the campaign tree
2) About two or three random AI setups in some of the scenarios, so they play slightly differently.

I find the game enjoyable, but once I figure out a winning strategy to a scenario, it's going to play out almost 100% successfully every time. I would like to see some curveballs thrown in, like number 2 above, and/or maybe some random reserves. Ex. Being unsure of the enemy carrier forces at Midway and Coral Sea should make things a bit more lively.

This, and I'd like to see (in this game and the PZ Corps series) you be able to lose a battle and not have the campaign end. This is where more branching could come in.

Maybe they'll patch in some stuff like that as the game matures. However, it is a nice game and worth the purchase.
