Not tonight Jerry...

Post by KWG »

After suffering high losses(75-100 aweek) for weeks while flying raids of >500 I tried something different. The flak no longer have hours to shoot at a long stream of aircraft. Did recon after every raid. Miss target but did large damage to manpower. FOW - so I will recon next week to see what the damage really is.
Maybe I really hit the Uboot Factory. Would like to keep these losses and increase the accuracy/damage.

102 bombers/ 1 loss
37 fighters/ 1 loss

There seems to be some posibility here to help build up morale which may help to lessen losses in larger raids.

Nice, What numbers are you putting on target and how much damage are you causing? When is that and what are the numbers for the week. Iam in Sept.'43 and I grounded every night squadron with a morale of less than 50 and I could only put 40 aircraft in the air. Ive got to get the morale up in my night bombers up and the losses down.
I have been hitting Hamburg and the surrounding areas heavy and its toll has been high.

RAF Bomber Command

Carried out 3 pinpoint raids on Flensburg, Hamburg and Willhelmshaven.

Targets UBoot Factories and Manpower

Recon on city day before and day after.
Bombing Raids of around 40 aircraft each at 9,000 feet.
One night each city.

The only known results was Willhelmshaven:

Port 12%
Manpower 88%
Resource 1%
Heavy Industry 1%

Total Losses of all 3 Raids
Loss 1-bomber
28 damaged but brought home.

The overall damage is not large but per loss it seems manpower canbe damaged without having to endure heavy losses. Even though historically they were doing 1,000 plane raids in '43, I can damage Manpower with smaller numbers of aircraft and build morale and experience.

Here is a 1,400 night bomber week around Hamburg.

Rain, Bomb altitude 9,000feet (sorta low)

286 aircraft loss

Not a good week for Bomber Harris. Bomber Crew morale is in the ditch.

That many bombers drew German Night fighters like moths to a flame.
