Scenarios?

Post by Grim.Reaper »

Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before, if so feel free to point me in the right direction. I am only a single player gamer so had a couple of questions.

1) How many of the scenarios included are specifically made for single player versus head-to-head?
2) I thought I read somewhere that possibly the H2H scenarios are also pretty playable as single player...is that true?
3) I know this might not be possible, but is there any breakdown on the size (meaning size by number of units not by scenario length) of the scenarios? For example, how many are considered small versus medium versus large? I prefer smaller scenarios since I sometimes get overwhelmed with managing a lot of units.

One last unrelated question, when playing the old Campaign Series game, it seemed like the "game colors" would bleed to my desktop after done playing the game, requiring me to reboot to clear it up. Does this still happen with this version?

Getting close to purchasing, but just want to make sure a good fit for my play style.

1) You can check the scenario details in the manual. I count thirteen plus the four bootcamp scenarios that are listed as optimized for SP.

Hello,

I apologize if this has been asked before, if so feel free to point me in the right direction. I am only a single player gamer so had a couple of questions.

1) How many of the scenarios included are specifically made for single player versus head-to-head?

As Heinz notes, there are 13 standalone, plus three Linked Campaign Games (Consisting of 8-12 scenarios each, depending on how well/poorly you do)

2) I thought I read somewhere that possibly the H2H scenarios are also pretty playable as single player...is that true?

I would say the majority of them you could play against HAL. I would avoid playing scenarios that would have HAL using helicopters, since the A/I hasn't been built for that (we ran out of time), but it will be tended too in the future as it will be essential for Vietnam.

3) I know this might not be possible, but is there any breakdown on the size (meaning size by number of units not by scenario length) of the scenarios? For example, how many are considered small versus medium versus large? I prefer smaller scenarios since I sometimes get overwhelmed with managing a lot of units.

There is a complexity rating for each scenario based on the number of units.
2.1.3.1 Complexity Rating Chart
Complexity is the # of Units in the Scenario
1 1-20
2 21-50
3 51-90
4 91-140
5 141-200
6 201-280
7 281-380
8 381-500
9 501-750
10 >750

I'll see how many are smaller than 6.

Keep in mind, that the total unit count includes non-combat units as well. So while a scenario may be a complexity 6, 50 of those units might be trucks, that aren't directly involved in combat.

This no longer happens.

I can't address most of your questions, but the manual provides the breakdown below showing the complexity level (first column) and number of for total units for both sides (second column). I've added a third column with the number of scenarios for each complexity level (based on a quick run through the scenarios in the game):

2 21-50 8
3 51-90 13
4 91-140 17
5 141-200 7
6 201-280 6
7 281-380 3
8 381-500 3
9 501-750 8
10 >750 2

Also, I'm not completely sure, but I think they've dealt with the colors issue by including an option for "System Colors". If checked, the game leaves your system colors alone; if unchecked the game seems to change your system colors to match the game. Not sure why anyone would need this feature, but at least you can turn it off.

There are 51 scenarios smaller than size 6, not including the bootcamps.

Most of the Linked Campaign Scenarios would be smaller than 6 as well.

Thanks everyone, didn't realize the manual had the info so I will take a look. Since I am definitely only a single player, just need to make sure enough content to keep me busy:)

And don't forget it is a living game, meaning that more content will be added with future UPDATES.

I'll work on some new campaigns and some additional stand-alone scenarios for them.

Ok, thanks for the additional information, it's great that more content on the way. I am guessing the majority or at least good portion of players like H2H so I understand why that is popular, just not something I prefer so always looking for single player content when I can.

Grim this is really an excellent release. I am a single player and play the smaller scenarios also, i usually sort the scenario list by size and work up the list. the new views are really great. The only one that really has no use is the #3 the 3d zoom out, the rest are useful for one reason or another, something you really couldn't say about the other campaign games.I'm not the greatest player but the AI seems to do a good job, haven't noticed any backtracking yet and it does a good job of staying hidden and ambushing your armor. I'm a big fan of the campaign series so i'm slightly biased.
